i know roots style superchargers are efficient especially at low RPM's

my car gets decent MPG's when i keep my foot out of it. i know if your a car guy and on this forums you dont care about MPG's but it would be interesting to know the numbers from guys on here with 3.4" pulleys or smaller and supporting mod's

not a dumb question, but one thats been asked befor.

You can keep pretty much the exact same gas mileage with a modded car just like as if it was stock.

Adding headers and pulley and other mods, just allows the extra air and fuel and what not thats coming to leave just as fast and have a safe motor.

The tune if what really keeps the mpgs the same, you can add more timing to the cruise tables to lean it out more and add maybe 1-2 mpgs so it stay around the same after a few parts like a cat or egr have been taking out.

I currently run headers, not cat, no egr and stock pulley and it tuned and I get 30-31 on the freeway at 65-70 and still get 16-19 city.

I averaged anywhere from 29-32 on the highway at 80-85mph with a 3.2" pulley to Iowa and back...about a 1200 mile round trip when it was all said and done.

    Mods?

    Well...

Thrasher Race Cam, P&P'd heads, 42.5lb. injectors, LS1 TB Setup, P&P'd M90, SD Headers, Studded block/rotating assembly, balanced rotating assembly, low compression pistons (8.5:1), Triple Edge Performance built trans with 3.29 gearing, and a custom HP Tuners tune...

actually a good majority of mods will improve mpg.

    cold air intakes/ air filters
    exhaust
    headers
tuning like said. to balance fuel and raise timing
lowering the car will reduce drag slightly
these all improve mpg. some not that much but together it adds up.

when you start forcing more air or adding more fuel that is when mpg drop.
    bigger pulleys
    cam
tuning fuel for a richer mix at WOT
    wider tires

one mod that had an odd effect on mpg was my gear swap. i went from 3.43 gears in my 4t60e to 3.73 gears. my city mpg went up but my highway dropped. as i could ride in 4th gear around town now.

so depending on your goals for the car, you can still make a fast and efficient DD. i have seen some that built a L36 topswap and got crazy mpg numbers out of it. Many performance mods are about making things more efficient.... and that normally will improve mpg

with my setup (3.4, ported blower, headers, etc) I could hit 36-40MPG on I-95 running 75-80.

    City was closer to 25-28.

    You mean smaller.

    Why richer?

11.2-11.8 is a nice safe place to be.

right smaller pulley i should have said. if you are running richer you are using more fuel. richer is safer but hurts mpg

Technically power mods HELP fuel effeciency. Reason being is it takes less throttle to get more air into the engine.

Where MPG's are hurt is when people play with the loud pedal more.

get a Wide Band O2 sensor and do tuning with that! you will be safer and faster and save gas. Win win win
