Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
Just one rail, one fitting and one check.
FSM says to hook up the gauge and key click on/off a bunch of times, but you don't start the car. Bleed the air out of the gauge. Then click the key about 10 more times and you should have 45-52 for a reading. Then leave the car alone for 10 minutes (key off) and read the gauge. It shouldn't go down more than say a couple of psi.
Personally, I've seen cars pass the key click test easily. I tend to like to get a driving test. That way you can see if the pump can actually keep up with the motors demand.
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
Let's hope it's a vac leak!!!!!
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
Thanks Bill you've done this a few times I see.
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
Nope...first time :th_laugh-lol3:
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
I was reading pwnd's post on another thread and he mentioned that the MAF screen is in good condition. That's the screen on the throttle body opening right. Mine has a small hole could it be the cause of the problem?
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
The car has been at my friend's shop he says supercharger gasket and the throttle body itself is leaking. Do Throttle bodies go bad?
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
trying to detect a stumble via carb cleaner is nearly impossible... with 2 people, 1 spraying and one watching the tach like a crazy person can SOMETIMES detect a medium/large leak.
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
John, I merged the threads. Have you checked battery cables?
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
Bill what do you mean that you merged the threads? Sorry I'm still new at this forum stuff. If I can't put this engine back together next week can I call you? I should be alright as I've done similar stuff before but never on a car newer than something built in the 70's. You know when everything was simple (except the confounded carbureator tuning!)
Bought the whole kit of O rings for the injectors just in case and I will only touch the ones on the bottom. Also got new coolant elbows and o rings just in case.
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
Well after two days work, yes two days! she's all back togather. I'm glad I changed LIM gaskets because they were toase. No water in oil amazing. Very clean car internally, no sludge or chocolate brownie inside the valve covers! I think I broke the vacuum hose that goes to the MAP which I'll replace or splice today. DuBob's video was great! Hopefully MIL will stay off now!:th_laugh-pointup:
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
Any update? Did the lean code go away? And what did you do to fix it?
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
Still have the code. I have sent the throttle body out for rebuild. It leaks from the side where linkage attaches to butterfly. Bad bushing? Hope this is it though......
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
Hmm that's weird. So your engine isn't affected by the lean up too now? That's good because I was worried. My code hasn't been back for 3 days but my ltfts are still out of wack.
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
Well I bought the car a couple weeks ago. It had the code already and I thought it would be simple...... The supercharger gasket was leaking also. Changed everything down to the LIM. I don't even know if this is going to fix the problem but I have to think if it doesn't I may need a fuel pump.
Are you familiar with the TB on this car? Has a coolant passage on the bottom. Each time I've removed the TB the gasket has been wet down there. I have to think that at some time this will cause a leak as well. Ever hear of this?
Re: Hi I'm new and have a p0171 code, can you help?
Yea if your coolant oles arent closed from running an intercooler, that is normal for a stock lim and stock tb.
