figure it out fool!
I have a 1992 or 3 grand prix that had an intermitent problem, it would act fuel starved when i would stop at a traffic light, this would only happen maybe once a week or even two weeks but when it did the engine would act like it was going to die, pumping the gas would bring it back to life and it would run fine untill the next time.
This has been going on for about a month. Today i made a run to the store and it would not start to bring me home. The 3.1 MFI pontiac is dead. I don't know enough about newer (post computer controlled by sensor) cars to figure out what the problem is but I do know how to turn a wrench or two.
During the past month that my car has been acting up I have had a mechanic replace the fuel filter and check the sensors and fuel pump all seem to be fine.
Today when trying to start the engine it sounds like a lot of clicking and knocking is going on, the engine will run but only when the throttle is pressed to the floor, if this was a pre 70's car the sound it makes while
running would be indicitave of a bad rod but the engine keeps running as long as I keep the throttle to the floor, which does not indicate a rod.
I think it's time I dive in and learn how to twist a new wrench. Any ideas on what to look at would be greatly
