I run Mobil 1 Full Synthetic...says right on it that it has additives...

I for one, am not comfortable adding anything but oil to the motor...except for GUNK motor flush, right before an oil change...

I don't even use GUNK...I just run another cheapo quart of oil through it.

Also, Valvoline VR1...has extra zinc in it...which is good for bearings.

I just put some Rislone into the 350 on my Tahoe. On their website it says it is a slow-acting detergent which I like much better than pouring solvent into my crankcase. The Rislone will slowly dissolve sludge and let it get caught in the filter rather than dumping huge chunks into the pan, and potentially clogging a passage or the screen.

Maybe the solvent stuff is OK for newer engines or ones that always have it done, but I'd never put it into an engine with 50k+ that hasn't had anything before. The Rislone has about the same viscosity as oil. It's ok to use in place of a quart at every oil change.

Ahhhh local dude. Do your oil changes a little more often if you are thinking about an additive. That way you'll have more detergents and additives from the fresh oil and it'll all be good.

PS, if you want to know anything about oil, detergents, additives or filters. Bobistheoilguy.com End of thread, PERIOD.. stop reading
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
