Hello, newbie here....I am trying to help out an older man who is the principal at the DOD School here in Bahrain. Not very many helpful or trust worthy techs around here. Anyway here's the problem.
1998 GTP 3.8L SC / 127555miles. He says his wife was driving one day and it just died. He took it to a local shop and they said it was the ecu. He ordered a refurbished unit from the states. While waiting for the ecu, the garage says they hooked-up a '97 vette ecu just to see if they could get it to run???, they say it ran, but ran rough because of the settings in the vette ecu. ok, so the refurbished ecu arrived and they installed it. they told him the car still would not start. he called the shop in NJ where he ordred the ecu and they ask for the car info /miles/year/vin so on....and told him to send it back and they would reflash it. well it's back and still no go....any ideas? Thanks!

Did you guys see it not run on the 98 but run on the Vett because that is weird to me that a vett ecu would work
I just wish the police loved my car as much as i do 3.5,160 Stat,HAI,ZZP F/R STB, SSAC Headers, Reptile PCM

Most of the pinouts are usually pretty common among the cars.

I'd think crank sensor as well. PCM is not a common issue for the occasional stall.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

No, we did not see it run on the vette ecu, I have not even seen the car yet......I thought that was strange too....that's why I am a little worried he may be taken for a ride (rip-off).....

    Technicality..

GM started calling it PCM around 96 for Powertrain Control Module
Previous to that they called it ECU for something like Engine Control Unit

I guess the electronic trans control gave them a reason to rename it.. either way though, it's still a computer that makes the car run.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
