87 from shell in the GP
93 from shell in the cobalt

for the most part, higher octane fuel is just to prevent detonation on high compression engines, or when using forced induction. If you have a stock NA motor, just use 87, 93 won't do you much good. Might burn a little cleaner, but that's it.

I fill up on standard 87 octane gas. Using a higher octane in the 3800 N/A engine has zero benefit, unless of course you’re running a tune for it. Around these parts Kwik Trip is huge, so there is little choice for fill ups to be honest. And theoretically it is top tier gas so why not, but I do use BP now and then.

This post reminds me of a friend that was getting terrible mpg in her Saab turbo. About the third question I asked her was what gas are you using. She said just “regular gas”. I’m like you need to use 91 octane in that, and went on to explain why. The best part is she completely ignored my council and continued driving like that because premium gas was too expensive! I just shook my head, and was thinking getting mpgs in the teens isn’t? Women!

Ten years of continuous driving excitement and counting!

I run regular 87 in the GP. I get it at THE cheapest place I can find. AND since I live in the hood that usually happens to be right down the street usually at least 5 cents cheaper than everywhere else. Maybe one day when I just have money to blow I'll put 93 in the GP and see if it runs any smoother or anything.

Honestly, I prefer to run Shell gas or Texaco (but those are hard to find nowadays).

However, we used to have a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme w/European style front end. OMG I miss that car. Anyways, if you didn't put premium in it it would ping like nobody's business. You could away with 89 when the pennies start runnin low.

So yes in some cases it does matter but I believe follow dealer recommendations.

Ok maybe you know or maybe you don't but all gas is the same besides the octane ratings. I work at a gas station and my boss owns a BP and a SUNOCO (they all get gas from the same people i sign the papers and know the drivers its all the same). Same guy that delivers my gas delivers GULF and CUMBERLAND FARMS gas. And i also see the same trucks delivering SHELL and other fuel stations. You can put 93 octane in a GP but all it will do is keep it cleaner because its burning cleaner and at a higher temp.

    I usually use- 87
But when i go to eat civics in the GP i use- 93

In my n/a, I make too many short trips to get any benefit of 91.

Kwik Trip rocks!!, Try thier pizzas, milk, bread etc.

Ok we have wierd gas around here in NE i guess...the gas station only has 87, 89, and 91 (if you're lucky). the 89 is usually cheaper than the 87 so thats what i get. I dont think ive ever seen 93.
