This write-up is kind of from another forum but I used a different method when detailing the engine bay.

    Supplies: Awesome
    Garbage Bags
    Paint Brush(s)
    Micro Fiber Cloths
Paper Towels if you don't have Micro Fiber Cloths
    Garden Hose with water
    Time

Before you start the entire process if you do not have a cleaner/degreaser you can run to your local Dollar Store to pick up some Awesome which works FANTASTIC.
To start off with you will need to tape/bag off things in your engine bay that does not take kindly to water, for example the battery, alternator, air filter (if running open cone), PCM and all the other good stuff.
Next you will want to get your degreaser (Awesome) and spray it onto the part/area you want to clean.

After you spray the cleaner on their you will want to use a paint brush (doesn't matter on size) to agitate the soil/dirt on the surface.

Once agitated you will take the garden hose and lightly spray it onto what you have agitated.
After you spray it off with the garden hose you can wipe it off with a microfiber cloth.
Repeat the above steps until it is totally clean.
Enjoy a nice clean engine bay.

Here are some before and after pictures

And here you can tell the difference between where it was cleaned and agitated versus nothing.

For a finishing touch...granted I can't see the pictures at work...but spray everything plastic/black with tire FOAM and let it sit for a few minutes then wipe clean.

    Seriously...awesome...results.

Orrr Get some Turtle Wax CD2...And spray the living **** out of everything, take it for a spin, and let it bake onto everything, then wipe off any excess...The whole entire bay will be sparkley awesome.

Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Thanks for the comment guys. And yes Boostn it was dollar store stuff so if you have a used paint brush all you have to spend money on is Awesome. And it is only a buck so you can detail your engine bay with only a dollar and like ten cents.

Try to avoid the coil pac/icm area and the alternator. But again it's a motor, designed to go tru rain/snow/dirt, in other words, it's ok to get wet.

Like mentioned above the alternator, avoid water (shorting it), coil pacs. That is what the garbage bags are for though (keep water off the stuff that doesn't like water).

It would be up to you really. To be on the safe side you can. On the other hand you can just watch the amount of water you pour in that area.

This stuff works great! Here's mine that I just did!

(I only covered the air filter, but I don't plan on driving my car any more today, so all the electronics will have all day to dry out.

For the hood liner I just took a nylon brush that I got in a set with brass and steel. Used some car soap and just scrubbed it. Left it out in the sun to try out over a day or so.
