I purchased a 2000 monte carlo ss during the winter months. it has some problems with the engine so its smokes white smoke really bad. One of my friends has a 3.8 out of a 2002 chevy impala. is there any problems id run into putting this motor in?

Shouldn't be any problems. It's basically the same motor I assume they're both N/A?

yeah the 2k mote carlo was the 200hp 3.8...so it should be a direct swap...considering they are the same(seriesII)

hey guys i was wondering..i finally got around to putting the motor in the car. The only difference i see is:

    1. The rear exhaust manifold on the motor im taking out of the car has 3 tubes that go to each exhaust port and look to go into some sort of valve, possibly the EGR vavle?

My question is: The 2002 motor doesnt have that? Do i need to put that exhaust manifold in? Or, if i leave it out and just leave the rear exhaust manifold on that came with the 2002 motor? am I going to have a check engine light if i dont swap? There is a vaccum line that i would have to plug off if i didnt swap...

Need more info let me know. Thanks!

both of those manifolds should be the same, and yes that 4th smaller tube is for the EGR.

I know the 4th smaller tube is for the egr. But the 2000 monte carlo ss had some sort of other rear exhaust manifold that had the same size of tubing as the 4th smaller tube going to each exhaust port on the manifold. So i have to take that manifold and another unit that looks about like the egr valve and put it on. I believe it is for some sort of charcoal canister?

It's an AIR pump only require for I think CA and VA cars. Although I could be wrong about the states. But if you don't want to run it keep the older manifold.

    It looks like this right?

My 2000 Monte Carlo had the same extra piping on the rear Manifold, they make it a pain in the ass to replace spark plugs. They are for the AIR, to pump air into the exhaust right at startup to reduce emissions. Running without should cause a check engine light. The best way to go aboot it is use the Manifold without the pipes and have someone tune your car and delete the AIR pump.
