Just curious to find out what anyone's thoughts are on this. Which one do you think is quicker? Other pros and cons? This would be between a 2004 Monte Carlo SS Dale Jr. edition and a 2004 GTP, both stock. On paper, the GTP has 20 more HP, but weighs more, although power to weight ratio is still slightly in favor of the GTP. But I own both, and they both have around the same amount of miles on them, and I can't help but think the Monte just feels faster. It certainly handles better, but I'd love to take them both to the track on the same day and see what each one runs. My luck, I'd break them both, lol.

weight, size of wheels, and gear ratio would play a roll. I believe the monte carlo has a taller gear set 2.93 whereas the 04 gtp has a shorter gear ratio 3.29. off the line the gtp theoretically pull ahead but that's prolly about it. they run similar times but I think the gtp might trap 1-2 mph higher. all else being equal.

04 gtp only has 3.29s if its the comp g, so probably both have 2.93s. My moneys still on the gtp because of the gen v blower and no ubend though.
    04 GTP -HAI, 1.9 rockers.

Not a Comp G, so yeah, they both have the same final drive ratio. I think the biggest difference is in how they put the power down. The GTP has a harder time hooking up, and the trans shifts like a granny car. Not an ounce of crispness in the shifts. The Monte gets out of the hole better and shifts nice and firm. I'd be willing to bet the Monte does better at least in the 1/8 mile. On the highway, the GTP probably would take the Monte though. I still haven't figured out which one I'm gonna keep, and which one I'm gonna sell.

I really like the style of the Monte. In fact I had a 01 SS but, really hate the scheme the General put on the Dale jr. car. So if were me I'd keep the gp.

Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at with it too. The monte body lines are just perfect, while the GTP looks like a blob. But the nascar graphics are way WT.
