Ok guys. I've done a lot of interesting and cool mods to the Regal. One evening a few buddies and I were chatting, they all have 3800 background etc and one was boasting about his Maxima's heated steering wheel. I said how nice that would be. Another buddy said, why not use one from a Lucerne.

Lucerne has a heated wheel, with airbag and Buick emblem etc. Anyone ever considered or done this type of swap? Any ideas etc as to if it's possible?

If I can get this to work easily.. I'd be

You totally missed the garage too. This Regal has gotten pretty well loaded up and I don't like to be bored. Research five potential things and do maybe one. The draw of this one is that ... to my knowledge no one has tried it.

    This 2000 Regal has
    Aluminum subframe
    Vogtlands
    F Body brakes
Sound system with backup camera that uses no trunk room
    Homelink
    Turn signal mirrors
    Puddle lights
    Projector headlights
BMW driving lights (in place of fogs)
    Lucerne 18" wheels
    HT Motorsports rear suspension
    Etc etc..

Baby needs a new mod after I put in the fresh trans. That'll happen once I get my butt to the basement and build it.

Bonne is back to stock drivetrain with only a couple extras on it. Regal is the current DD.

Matt...you are saying the spline and spacing is correct? if so..then the rest is wiring/electrical. That's a piece of cake. Trying to find into on teh splines etc is difficult.

Bill the Lucerne has the 00+ Bonneville underpinnings. the Lacrosse is a W body. I honestly think youd have a better chance of the W wheel fittingfind a 00+ and you should have your answer

You may want to research that a little more, my GM catalog here in the parts dept says that the Lucerne (only 06-present) is a "H" body... the Regal in all bodies is the W body along with the Lacrosse/Allure so that would be your best bet.

Sorry bill I checked, no info for the wheel backspacing or splines available to me from any of them. I kno, fail parts guy

What about the airbag? Even if the wheel matched up, would the airbag work?

If he went with the whole steering wheel assembly, it would be airbag and all. It would just require making the proper connections so that everything worked the way it should, including the heater for the wheel.

I know, but just because it hooks up doesn't mean it works. I mean, we're talking about 90's tech vs new gen tech...
I consider this because I've thought a few times about switching the wheel from my 98 to one from an 04+ GP, and the biggest issues I could see would be the airbag working properly...

What about swapping the air bag it's self. That can't be to hard if it fits in there. I don't know about that idea tho either it might not work right

You don't understand the Billboost way of thinking. All he needs is for the spline and backspacing to be right. This will allow him to have the design he needs without slicing the current wheel in half. Wiring and rerouting the electronics is second nature.
