Thanks for the throttle body info guys. Once the super. Charger oil I ordered arrives, I plan to tackle both of those jobs.

2000 technically does not require programming. See that little metal thing inside the black piece that's just past where you'd hold the key? That's a resistor. If you put a multimeter set to ohms on each side of that you will get the resistance. There are only 16 possibilities. You could buy the correct resistance or disable it. Search on GM VATS and you'll have all kinds of info on it. On my 2000 regal I put in a remote starter and chose to disable the vats. I literally soldered two resistors that were within spec onto the bcm. You will likely see in the videos that people do it into the two small wires coming out of the column. Either will work.

And honestly.. do you need a 20+ year old system that every thief in the world would be able to bypass in under a second? I figured no one would ever try to steal my 2000 regal and as it turns out, even left wide open with all windows down and keys in the ignition on the front lawn by the sidewalk no one ever touched it. Oops on forgetting it was open with keys in it.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I’m not concerned about it getting stolen, more just starting and running. 2000 BUICK REGAL 3.8L V6 Supercharged Ignition Lock Cylinder | RockAuto this was what I was planning to get. It comes with the keys. Can’t tell if they have the resister chip or not. Thanks for your posts and helping me work thru this. It’s kinda fun to help my dad and work on his car like he did on mine as a kid.

If you wanted to retain the VATS you could order keys off ebay then have them cut. All those cylinders do appear to have the wiring for vats.

Personally, I'd solder the resistor value to the bcm wires and be done. Worked great for me.
