I need to know how to bleed the brakes on a 1992 Grand AM. It has anti-lock brakes and I'm not sure if I need to bleed them differently than one would bleed "normal" brakes. If so, can someone give me some detailed instructions? If not, can someone let me know and I will bleed them like I would a car without anti-lock brakes.

    Thanks,

    Rick

    Did you figure it out?

I dont know if this helps but on my GP 94, I bled the brakes via the master cylinder. It has antilock brakes.

But I do have a manual for GAs as I have an 86, I can scan it for you.

Same as all brake systems. Start from the furthest caliper away from the MS and then the second furthest ect ect.

If you changed the MS you will have to bench bleed that also before you put it on.

If you only replaced one brake line or wheel cylinder or caliper then you only need to bleed that wheel (as long as the mastercylinder didn't go empty.)

rear right, then left rear, right front, left front.

The MS is the first thing you should bleed. You should bleed it out of the car using the supplied fittings and hoses (if purchased new)

If you're having issues with the pedal pressure being low after you have already bled the brakes. Chances are that is it.

Some other things to consider if there is no pedal pressure.

Make sure you put the calipers on the right side of the car. If you switch them they will be upside down and the bleeder valve will be facing downward. Air rises. so they need to be facing upward so you can get all of the air out of the system.

If there is low pedal pressure but the car still stops you either have air somewhere in the system or you need a new MS.

Without the fittings in the box i'm not sure you CAN bleed the MS. What I did is go up to the parts place and bought a ms for my car took the lines out and returned it.
