I have an 02 GT that I purchased new in Nov 02, has 134,000 miles on her now. Within the past week a mystery click has appeared. It sounds like your holding a golf ball about four feet high and drop it on the concrete sidewalk, just a click. Sometimes it sounds like it comes from the front and other times from the rear of the car and it only happens when your starting off from a stop, and only on occasions.

Has anyone had this mystery click ?
Where is it coming from and what do I need to do to correct it?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Bill

Have you ever replaced anything on the suspension?

Kinda sounds like a strut mount, maybe even a loose sway bar link. If in the front, a bad lower motor mount can do it too.

Am not a certified mechanic and don't spend that many nights in a Holiday Inn Express, however, have a nice garage in the back yard with two and four post lifts. Change the oil, rotate the tires regularly along with brake job when needed, tranny fluid changes and whatever else I don't want to pay someone else to do. Short version of the story is I have checked all the bushings in the sway bar, sway bar link, front and rear struts and shocks were replaced about 30,000 miles ago, front and rear engine mounts are tight and in good shape. No rubber cracked, broke or missing. I see nothing that is broke or leaking. That is why I posted here to see if someone else may have had the same symptoms and what they discovered was the problem. Thanks for your reply, we are thinking alike but those are not what is causing the clicking noise. Yes, I do play golf and have emptied the trunk to see if I had a golf ball hidding with just enough room to cause a click. Did not find any thing in the trunk, behind the back seat or the spare tire well.

When does it occur? Stopped, moving, slowing, accelerating? If you add more detail about when or how it occurs, someone might be able to narrow down a cause.

He said it's just when you take off from a stop, but not everytime he does it.

if its only when you fist start the car and drive off and it sound like a rake dragging or a crunching sound, roll down the windows, all 4 wheels do it.

its the ABS self test. they all do it. its normal.

Yeah the abs systems make a weird noise when you first start off.

I certainly appreciate all of you trouble shooting this but I have owned her since Nov 2002, put 134,000 miles on her and she just started it last week. If it is supposed to be normal she did not know it for the past 11 plus years. Only does it when starting off from a stop. does not do it every time. sometimes it sounds as if it is coming from the front right, other times from the right rear. sounds like you dropped a golf ball on a concrete sidewalk from about four feet high. That is the best I can do as far as describing it.

well if its anytime it could be a bad axle or a brake is sticking. you'll need to start checking things out.

sway bar end links could be shot, or the bar is snapped.
