What can happen if a new rack is installed and wasn't tightened according to the torque specs.? The original rack lasted 250k. I'm getting ready to replace rack again for the 3rd time in about a year. The first replacement rack we sent back as defective, now having rack problems again, (clunking, creaking, excessive play in tires and eating up my front tires). It's not likely to get two defective racks, I thinking maybe mechanic may have defective brain.

Iv never heard of a rack eating up tires, that would probably be your tie rods. Have you gone through your other suspension parts to make sure its the rack your hearing?

When this 2nd rack was installed 11-2013 all front end parts were good. Did replace one tie rod end because for some reason one was not a moog but now have moog.
I'm wondering if the rack was not installed properly could that cause parts to wear out

Loose rack bolts can make the toe go all out of whack and everytime you did an alignment it would be wrong again the second it was drove off the lift. As everything would shift again.

Just make sure everything is really tight, torque specs don't really matter on those bolts. Just get em down tight all around, maybe some blue loctite on the bolts if you wanted. Then get another alignment done.

One of the rack bolts won't let it move much, I think the driverside has the ability to let that side move more. (Might have that backwards), you can get movement if they are loose though. Easy to check..
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
