    Hey All!

I've got to replace the shorter rear portions of my brake lines - from around the fuel filter back. They're rotted out in the bendy spots, so splicing in a straight section isn't really an option.

My plan is to make new lines and flare them myself.

Can anyone tell me the standard, technical name for this style of tubing flare so I can get the right tool? Also, are these metric fittings? The best fit when I took them off was a 12mm flare nut wrench.

    Thanks!

    Adam

You don't need to make new ends as those come on the new lines already. Just use a double flare with a union to connect the good new replacement pipe to the existing pipe on the car. A good double flare tool and tubing benders I found at Lowes or Home Depot. There was one line on my car that was rusted bad and needed to be replaced, I was able to find a good replacement at a salvage yard. The type of joint used on the modern car like the GTP is not a common double flare but a "bubble" flare IRC. It is basically made the same way a double flare is but without completing the the second step required to finish a double flare, and the lines are metric sizes and depending on parts store inventory can be sometime difficult to find.
