GP GXP Front End Sway (rough roads)

Hello all, new to the forum deal, but am a long time Pontiac enthusiast and owner (74 grandville, 85 bonneville, 99 grand am) of Pontiacs and have currently acuired an 08 GP GXP. Haven't ever driven or riden in once until i purchased this one last week, but have been searching the web in regards to one of the concerns i have with this vehicle. I noticed when on rough rural roads, those that have ruts, etc from tractors and big trucks, that the car has a tendency to follow these. It's an eye opener and makes you have to hold on. Anyone exerienced in these issues have any particular advice on what to look out for or possibly change or upgrade? Front tires seem to wear a little more on the inside and a little tread life left, but are nearing the end of their life span. Previous owner put Nexen S3000, i believe. Any advice would be appreciated.

Alignment seems pretty good, although I could be wrong, but its tracks very well on smooth roads, with of course the slight pull to the right.

So tires are pretty much junk unless you're going to autocross the car everyday. I wouldnt doubt that its a helping reason as to why it follows grooves/ruts in the road.


Inside wear is somewhat common on the GXP, they have 18x8 front and 18x7 rear for rim size. Because of the 2 different size tires, its hard to get perfect wear and even harder if the tires up front or in the rear are directional. They will spin the same way their whole life and can wear quicker, also if the camber is off on any corner it will wear the inside edge faster.

Some new tires and atleast check the alignment and you should notice a difference.

Heck I have damn near perfect alignment and mine will follow grooves and all. Always has done that. One thing I've done and has helped considerably with it is ZZP LCAs and a gmpp sway bar. Since doing that it tightened things up a lot. I have coil covers to install as well...but don't have time.. but 91parkave said that it made a huge difference with his.

Also any mods or anything to the car. How many miles

any low profile tire will always try to follow grooves in the road due to less give in the sidewalls.

Has nothing to do with low profile. Get you alignment checked out and wider directional tires will follow grooves depending on grade and type of road your traveling on.. Mine does it as well. Also make sure your sway bar end links are good to go as well.

We'll, I'd gotten Allied tire here to check the alignment and the first thing off the top was that they would not be able to do it because of the negative camber in the rear. The jerks wanted to charge me $69 for each camber bolt kit plus install fee to put them in. TotL was like $238 with alignment. Had to pause on that for the moment.

Front tires are directional, those nexens as previously mentioned.

Away bar end links seem tight too. Is taken off the front wheels the other day to check out the brakes and stuff to make sure everything was good. I'd picked up some autozone rotors and pads to get rid of the brake wobble from high speed stopping as we'll.
