Resurrecting this old thread. I am getting some bad rust on the RR of the 98 sedan. I had the jack stand on the pinch weld just ahead of the rear tire and thank God I left the floor jack in place otherwise the jackstand would have gone up through the rocker. Where else can I jack from in the rear? Can i jack from where the lateral links come together in the middle of the chassis?

That's where I jack mine if we're both thinking of the same spot there (pretty much the lowest point on that whole assembly jazz by where the wheel attaches), the rear part of both my rockers are, uh, ready to fall out any day now. lol

Look under the car from the drivers side, find the fuel filter. Just infront of the fuel filter is a 2.5x10 piece of unibody frame. You can't miss it. It's a boxed part of the frame that is very strong. Both sides have it course, just using the drivers side as a reference.

That is really where you are suppose to lift the rear of the vehicle when on the sides. I lifted all cars on the 2 post lift at work from there because the pinch welds arent strong enough.

Or you can place a 4x4 on a jack to lift up the rear subframe from the middle. It's got a flat spot that works great with a 4x4 to lift the whole rear end, then place the jack stands where I said too above.

Just changed the fuel filter on the 02 yesterday and saw exactly what you are describing, its what reminded me to do a search on this. The 98 is coming home again for Christmas (and bringing my daughter and fiance.lol) and it needs some more work. She is still getting intermittent abs light, the 2 front hubs are new from last year, so it must be one of the rear ones, so figure ill just change both. Tried to diagnose over Thanksgiving but as soon as she got home the light went out..arghhh....

I think you and kaiser are saying the same thing, its that point in the middle where the lareral links coming in from each wheel meet and attach to the subframe. Jack there and then stands under those frame elements by the fuel filter left and right.

The code should still be stored even if the light went out. If you don't have a scanner that does ABS they are relatively inexpensive now. Don't assume since the fronts were changed it isn't the fronts, parts these days are not good quality and don't seem to last. This scanner is decent, I have it and it seems to work well. I paid 37 bucks for it from Amazon, but it seems they have gone up some.

I wouldn't just replace the rears without at least scanning the car first. Good luck whatever you decide.
