Emergency brake uses fluid?

I have a 2005 Grand Prix N/A and have a brake fluid leak in the rear passenger side.

I have briefly checked it out and see it runnig all the way down the tire.

I have been using the emergency brake to park to not put a toll on The transmission.

Before I inspect where it is coming from was wondering if the emergency brake even uses brake fluid?

Or is is mechanically operated with a spring?

the e brake is all cable, you have a leak in the line or the caliper in that back tire.

So here is what I found.

It look to be where the emergency brake links up to the caliper? What part is actually leaking? Do I need to replace the whole caliper?

Red Arrow is where it is dripping from and green circle is where fluid is showing.

Lines look to be bone dry.

I have the same leak and a new caliper ready to go in. According to the factory service manual when the caliper leaks fluid there it is time for a new one. If I get mine done in the near future I will post some pics. It does involve taking the tension off of the e-brake cable and disconnecting it further up. Then, you can disconnect it from the caliper.

i think that might actually be muffler fluid.

Then, you can disconnect it from the caliper.

Where do you disconnect to take the tension of the e-brake? Do I need a special tool?

I have everything off, just cannot get the emergency brake cable off the caliper.

As someone stated that is a non-serviceable part so replacement is the only option. I just replaced both of my rear calipers about 6 months ago. As for removing the cable from the caliper itself I believe we used a big ass flat screwdriver and pliers.

Just got it done, went with my local parts store $85.00 without core. Used large channel locks and compressed the parking break spring to remove cable and the same for installation.

Only thing now it the park brake is weak and needs to be adjusted it seems. Anyone know how to adjust the e-brake?

So figured out I didn't need to adjust the e-brake line. Just had to bleed it properly with the cap on and not off.
