Thread: Popping sound only while turning left.

So for the past little while I've had this popping noise coming from what seems to be the front passenger side steering (it pops almost always while turning left and sometimes with a decent amount of throttle from a stop or a decent amount of braking) It seems to have gotten much worse recently and sometimes it pops really loud while i'm driving. So when I got home tonight I took a short video of the noise. Any help would be much appreciated.

Possibly motor mounts. Like it pops with vehicle in park

I know my motor mount is shot.. I thought that might have been it. It'll pop while turning left sometimes, It'll pop under decent acceleration and it popped earlier pretty loud while downshifting into 2nd. That would make a bit more sense to me.

Ehh.. I liked the sound of the $70 CV shaft better lol.

Unfortunately I know nothing of steering and suspension systems and you're speaking in a foreign language to me

So are you saying I need to replace the steering shaft or the rack and pinion or what?

I understand now.. From what I see they're about $60-$100 then paying for installation?

the I shaft is connected to the steering gear at one end and to the steering column at the other. Replacing the I-shaft will fix the problem. have someone qualified do this if your not sure as this is the mechanical connection for steering the car. Done wrong and you could cause a crash

+1 on what he's saying. I'd make sure there's no play in anything first just in case. But it really sounds like a rack and pinion noise. 04's had a tsb where they pretty much always made that noise by 120k. But any rack can go bad.

No it would be a lot more than that. It depends on what route you go. Some go to a junk yard and test their luck and do it themselves. If it's fine they get by with around $80. Labor alone is pricey, probably $250 plus the part, which you can get new, reman, or used.

Well as far as I know both can go bad creating similar noises. I'd do more diagnosing though. Try what he said first.
