I'm thinking of completely replacing my brake lines in the spring since they're getting kind of bad in spots, not horrible but there are also compression fittings in places from previous owner's fixes. I'm doing pads and rotors as well, and I want my brakes to be in the best shape possible. As of now I have a leak at the proportioning valve [#10289556] on the left side. I believe it's leaking at the flared fitting from the fixed line, it may need tightening or something but it's also corroded and they're known to leak from the seam. I'll be replacing them as well. The question is, does it matter at what point in the line the proportioning valve is? From the factory they're right before the caliper, which means the aluminum housing is exposed to all the salt in the winter here. I'd like to know if when I replace my entire line, (I have to cut the line to put it somewhere anyway) Can I put it right after the ABS module or some point down the firewall, instead of under the floorboards? It will still be in the same line just closer to the master cylinder. I heard that it's either there or built in to the abs module on the 04+ GP's.
