    My buddy told me i have to oblong the lower 2 strut holes before i get an alignment ? Is this true

    Throw everything on the car and go get an alignment.

    If the alignment is out you have a few options for the camber. You can run camber bolts or have the upper bolt holes on each strut oblonged. The bottom bolt holes dont get touched.

    Most guys will run -1.0 to -1.7 of camber and it will be just fine.

    Front Camber Adjustment
    Removal Procedure

    1. Raise the vehicle and provide suitable support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
    2. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies from the front and the rear axles. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
    3. Remove the strut from the vehicle. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement in Front Suspension.
    4. Place the strut in a vise and file the hole lateral (oblong). Compare the appearance of the holes before filing (2) with after filing (3):
    - File the lower strut-to-knuckle attaching hole for a front camber adjustment (as in the first illustration).
    - File the upper strut-to-knuckle attaching hole for a rear camber adjustment (as in the second illustration).

    Caution!
    Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring
    the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces
    unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
    installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    With just springs, does one "need" an alignment or just good practice?

    yes. you must do an alignment any time you change anything on the suspension.
