I made a trip to pep-boys today in my sisters Impala to replace some mangled hardware from my GP, and I noticed something interesting. Behind those 16in wheels are 11.9in rotors and dual-piston calipers! I've heard lots of talk about f-body brake upgrades, but never anyone talking about swapping their Grand Prix's front brakes with an Impala's brakes.

They're both w-bodies, should be plugnplay right?!

I was just reading about this yesterday, yes no drilling of the holes like you need to for the fbodies (I believe). N here's a good price for them too.

06+ impala/monte carlo brakes are bolt-on. make sure you get the bigger impala rotors (same as f-body iirc) along with the caliper and bracket. theyre two-piston brakes, not aluminium like f-bodies and iirc they shouldnt have the common mushy pedal feel f-body swap owners complain about.

just go to your local picknpull like I did and get the rotors, caliper brackets and caliper slide pins from any 2001 and up monte carlo, or 2000 up impala have the rotors turned, buy new pads and slap it all together the calipers are the same as the new ones and just need the pins to work . I just did this and it works great up graded from the stock 11 in rotor to the 12 and it only cost about 20 for the rotors,16 to turn them, 8 for the brackets and 32 for new pads and it is the same as the gmpp upgrade but not with the 331.00 price .GM Parts Direct: 12498644 - Brake Upgrade Kit (12" rotors)

I have the front impala brakes on my car. Easy to put on, and it seems the calipers are usually cheaper than fbody calipers, but with fbodys you have a weight savings of about 10 lbs. So it's up to the owner to decide what's more important, save money or save weight. I got a package deal from a member on here with cut cross drilled and slotted rotors, and it was priced very well. I bought some hawk pads and it's a great bang for the buck braking mod. You can get impala or fbody rotors, doesn't matter either way. I highly suggest getting hawk pads, they bite very well and leave far less dust than EBC pads.

No, you need the to use the monte/impala rotors. F-bodys are too thick.

I have I had F-bodys on the GTP, now I have C5s and I run 06+ monte/impala brakes on the regal. Both cars have GXP rears.

If I had to be honst, the Buick seems to bite better. I havent driving with the C5s much but with the F-bodys they dont seem to bite as much. They still will give you whip lash though.lol

Didnt know impala's had bigger rotors who woulda thought.
I mean, I consider a prix a performance car over an impala and a prix weighs more..
But I guess the body style started in 97 and the impala 2000.

On a side note, does it do a lot of good to upgrade brakes on a car without abs? I think it's about the most bs thing that you could get a 2005 impala with no abs..
Or is abs a pretty easy thing to add?
