Hi, having a horrible time with my balljoint.

I have one of those rental press tools from my local autoparts, and the balljoint is going in crooked . It is in most the way, and on a scale of a little-to-a-lot, is a little crooked. I have access to an actual press tomorrow, I'm thinking about just pressing it in the rest of the way (1/4" more), and hoping it seats flush once it's all the way down. Any similar experiences out there I can pull some advice from??
