This may have been discussed numerous times before, but my search button abilities are full of suck tonight it seems. I am hearing a loud clunk in the rear of the car, and am reading it could likely be a mount vs the strut itself. The car has 66k miles on it currently. I am searching for a replacement strut and it seems like everything non-GM states "w/o 17" wheel" so I am taking that as not the CompG strut. Where is everyone sourcing the aftermarket struts for the CompG these days? I will be replacing both rears and any guidance to a source is appreciated.

    Thanks.

You're looking for the FE3 Sport option. RockAuto has the struts. 88955413.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

    Nice. Thanks.

I am assuming it is reasonable to just replace the mount when you replace the strut and do that whole thing once and be done.

    Thanks for the info!

So if you go to Amazon.com and search for "04 Grand Prix Strut", are any of those a fit? I cannot even find the GM part number for these things. facepalm... Lol

Yup replace the mount as well. And don't use amazon unless you can find it with the part # . There's like 3 or 4 different struts for the Grand Prix. The comp g is geared toward sporty so I would still go with those or you can get some KYB Gr2 struts. There stiffer then the base FE1 (what bass models come with) and softer then comp g's so its a in between and rather cheap.

Use Monroe for the strut mounts

If you're not sure I called kyb and got the part number for confirmation ... and rock auto.com is probably the cheapest .

I mean... you can toss any strut in there. But you'd be ruining the whole sport package business.

I've never even heard it rated. But seriously, a CompG handles noticeably better than a base model.

And since he's only replacing the rears, he'd have a rake.

I think they offer quick struts for the rear only on the comp don't kill me if I'm wrong though.

Not only on the comp but comp doesn't offer quick struts for front I think rear though.

    From the base oh yes.

Had a buddy that had a comp g that replaced his struts with gr2/excels because of the cost at the time and the difference between mine and his wasn't to noticeable.

Only guys that offer quick struts are Monroe and yea you don't want those. Just get the struts and mounts give yourself a sat. Rent a spring compessor and swapped them yourself

Does anyone know the GM part number for the OEM struts/mounts? I typically can find this information, but am just sucking at it these days...

I just did what I think you're trying to do. I paired KYB's with FE3 coils.
I could not find quick struts. At least you already have the coils.
I got the mounts and other misc pieces from rock auto.

How's the ride did you notice any sort of difference? I really couldn't when I drove my friends compared to mine but I do have more mileage on my stockers.
