I just finished changing out the rear brakes on my 97 GTP. After the first trip on the highway the brakes got wicked hot and so did the rims. I was assuming something is up with the e brake since it almost feels like the car is dogging at higher speeds. Anyone else ever have issues like this. I've done brakes more times than I care to count and this is the first time I've ever run across this issue. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a caliper is stuck. Lift the rear of the car off the ground, start it, pump the brakes a few times, then release. See if the wheels spin freely with the brake released. If not, that wheel's caliper is stuck. One of my rears stuck at around 50k miles. Got a replacement pair from Ed Morad for $30 shipped.

I'll look into that. It seems rather odd though that both sides would go like this at the exact same time.

you either got a frozen caliper or alot of friction.

How are the rotors? new or cut or just a pad change?

It sounds like your rear rotors are glazing or already glazed from the heat, is there a smell? itll smell similar to burnt clutch.

The rotors are new as well as the pads. There is a smell too like you said. I've never heard of a glazed rotor. Can you fill me in?

basically the heat generated by the friction left a nice glaze on the rotors, take em off go get em turned and reinstall, all should be well. The rotors have a warranty I presume?

If they're new, they shouldn't be glazed. If they are glazed, there's a reason which is most likely a stuck caliper. Need to check those calipers and possibly get the rotors turned if needed.
