    Hey folks!

While changing my rear brakes, I noticed that one of the slider pins has a rubber ring on it. Stupidly I did not notice it when pulling them out for cleaning and am not sure if the one with rubber goes in the top caliper hole or the bottom? Also, is there anything like this on the front pins? I have not got around to doing front brakes yet but want to make sure they are in the right positions.

    Thanks!
    Josh

your supposed to have a rubber dust boot on both caliper bolts/pins. you can buy a hardware kit for each caliper if needed, comes with boots, pins, and new sliders.

He's not talking about a rubber dust boot. He's talking about the rubber "grommet" that is on the end of one of the caliper mounting bolts.

If I could remember, I would tell you which hole it went in. I am thinking it goes in the top hole, but don't take my word for it.

Just pay attention when you are doing the fronts.

Honestly though, it won't make a big difference either way.

got ya, the one at the end of the caliper pin...... i think thats the top bolt, not that it matters so much. just be sure to clean and re grease them, use high heat synthetic caliper grease. most brake pads come with a ketchup pack of it, if not you can buy it for about 1 buck at the check out at autozone.

I know the rubber grommet is supposed to prevent rattle or noise of some sort. Someone else was saying it should be in the position that would take the most force from braking which I would think would be the bottom caliper bolt. Thoughts?

    Its the top.

Why ask a question and get three concensus answers and then try to tell us we're wrong?

I didn't say anyone was wrong, 2 of the posters said they "think" it's the top bolt but not 100% sure. A mechanic friend of mine said he thought it would be the bottom bolt as it would take more of the force when the brakes were first applied. That's why I brought that possibility into the question.
