I was wondering, anyone have any recommendations of any product I could use on my brakes to stop squeeking? No, the brakes ain't shot. There are new pads and rotors installed already. I've heard of people using stuff before, not sure what though. Any ideas or products you recommend? I don't reallly have the time to tear down the brakes to scuff up the pads and rotors. LMK...

you can go to your local parts store adn get a gel that you can put on the pads or I saw something on the shelves of my store yesterday that you can spray on them I think ( wasnt really paying close attention to it).

Yes, they do make products that you can put on your brakes to keep them quiet for a bit. But it doesn't last long. In a week or two, they will be squeaking again.

And it might be just me and my own personal weirdness, but I like my brakes to stop me when I put them on. I don't want anything in between the pads and rotors, nor do I want to put any kind of coating on them. Especially one made of oil, like some of the brake quiet products are.

So if your brakes are squeaking, I say either let it go as it is not hurting anything on the car. Or fix it the right way by taking the rotors off and scuffing them up or having them turned. Don't settle for a band-aid product that might prevent your car from stopping as fast as it usually does.

You dont put the product on your pads or rotors themselfs. The product goes on the back of the pad, not touching the rotor.

i use stuff from Wurth called disc brake quiet or something, it looks like a shoe polish applicator. im running the R1 concepts rotors and hawk pads and my car sounds like a taxi cab, im switching back to stock rotors and pads before winter.

Well, i'm looking for something more or less to kill any glaze on there. I'm assuming thats the issue. I'll probably just have to scuff up the pads and rotors and try again I guess. Rotors are already turned, have less than 2k miles, so do the pads. Kinda baffling. I've used this brand rotor and pads before, guess luck ain't on my side. Car breaks good otherwise though. I just HATE noisey ass brakes!!!!

It only happens when you brake? You should be able to tell if its the brakes from applying/releasing from the brakes when you hear it. Then I'd go after a wheel bearing. Or is it just that messed up and annoying that it only happens when you don't want it to?

Some products are made to go on the metal to metal contacts in your brake system. Others are "supposed" to go on the pads/rotor themselves. I wouldn't mind the sli-gide stuff for the metal to metal contact. But the lube for the rotors and pad surfaces I won't let get even near my brakes.

Shawn, I can tell you something I learned a few years ago about our cars....

I have always only replaced the brake hardware whenever it needed it, just made sure it was clean before I put ti back together.....well I went thru 3 sets of pads and a set of rotors trying to get rid of squeeky brakes after I changed all the brakes for the first time. Yes I used permatex brake quiet and each time and no change. I finally changed out the brake hardware (the metal clips that hold the pads on the caliper bracket) and wala.....no more squeek, and every time I change the brakes now, I always change the hardware with it and have never had squeeky brakes, and I am running the R1 drilled and slotted and Raybestos Quiet Stop Ceramic pads.

Good idea on the clips, i'm gonna give that a try since its pretty much a given i'm gonna have to tear it down. I always make sure everything is super clean and lube the sliders too so i'm kinda dumbfounded. Bad clips make since to me...

BTW Chris... When you mention brake noise, was it when stopping or while driving?

I use PosiQuiet pads. The nylon/teflon shim on the back keeps the caliper piston and bracket from causing squeal against the metal pad backings.

It was when stoping, driving around without the brake applied was no problem....I just found a old card that came in a brake box, and it says to change the clips every time you change the brakes, so that may be your problem....let us know if that fixes it, but I bet it does.
