because i found these Amazon.com: ACDelco 172-2263 Caliper Assembly: Automotive and i wanna know how id put them on my car
Those are C5 calipers, they have the same profile and piston size as C6. they'll work fine. you'll need F-Body Pads, Pins, And Abutment plates. Also Banjo bolts for the Caliper you choose. And of course F-body rotors. The F-body pins are slightly longer than C5/C6. By all accounts the C5 caliper is a vastly better quality piece than the Flimsy F-body offering,(I Melted mine, as the picture shows!) The C6 is virtually the same except that it has more stiffness, being more solid than ribbed, but they fit the same.
So if you bought the kit you'd probably end up paying more than if you just put the parts together yourself, and then you'd have a pair of cheap rebuilt Camaro calipers sitting in the corner...Rock Auto calls the abutment plates "caliper Brackets" and they're $25 ea. A-1 Cardone part 141153
Oh, and you still need the little sleeves from mcmaster-carr, etc, or have your abutments tapped for the larger bolt size the pontiac has...
And I'll add this, The C5/C6 pistons are 40mm and the F-body are 44mm or thereabout and this would predict more pedal effort to achieve the same stopping power with all other things being equal. My subjective opinion on this is that any increase is very slight. If I drove 2 cars back to back I could probably tell which was which, but after a couple hours in the driveway-not so much...
Yup, Only issue I'm aware of is with the early "crosslace" style wheels, they won't clear the calipers. Mine clear by a good 1/8" with Eagle Alloy 16x7 wheels. Also I could have used the Banjo bolts from My F-Body calipers, but since I had new ones I used them. Also the ears are not as thick on the "Vette calipers, so check that your bolts aren't too long, and use loctite on them as they tend to loosen under heat if you don't.
They should fit. If you want to be sure, go to the KORE3 website, find the PDF labeled Hybrid C5/C6, http://www.kore3.com/downloads/fitme...es/DOC0017.pdf Print it out, and when you trim the template, you have to shift the centerline of the hub plug towards the outside by 7/16" since your rotors are smaller and also step it out to match the hat offset on the f-body rotor. I've read that the crosslace are the only wheels that don't clear though...If that's too confusing I can take a picture...
I did c5's for 150 bucks....
You Can Definitely do it for $300 or less and with basic hand tools-although air always makes life easier...
Ebay my friend..or craigs list...ls1tech
Yeah, I was quoting 300ish for best prices new...
I can send my Spread pair for shipping if you want, It might be worth it for the core(or not) or you could just run them with cheap rotors and soft pads that will quickly wear to fit...still probably better than stock, and it gets you on the road to a full upgrade later for a $20 set of pads...jmb1108@yahoo.com, if you want to email me, mike
i bought a set of f body calipers and all 4 slotted rotors off intrigue98, from his crashed GTP, let me tell you its night and day over stock. i haven't felt the abs kick in at all yet, un like the stock set up. with F body brakes YOU CAN AND WILL STOP ON A DIME.
I did the F-body upgrade two weeks ago and find the results to be much improved over stock. It was also quite inexpensive.
Most users will be fine with this setup and will not experience bent calipers.
They were designed for a 140 MPH nasty ugly car after all.
