This is a crack, right?

I am the original owner of a 99 GTP. It has 140k, no mods, still in pretty good shape. Lately I have been hearing a clicking noise only on left turns. I crawled under the car and noticed the end of the right side of the sway bar looked like this. This is cracked, right? If it's a crack, could it be the source of the noise I hear on left turns, even though it's the right side of the sway bar?

yes, yes and yes lol replace it with a doorman solid bar, they don't break, well not under normal use they don't.

i paid 120 for mine, came with new bushing and end links.

If you wanted improved handling with that dorman bar, get moog end links and bushings.

1.26" bar size bushings.

If you like the stock body roll, the bushings it comes with are fine.

Rock Auto has the Dorman bar 33mm for $78 plus $11 shipping. Love that place. Thanks guys for answering my question. I was pretty sure it was cracked but I don't have too much experience on front end stuff.

Got the new bar in today, first time I ever changed a sway bar. For anyone looking to do this fix, here's how it went. My car is a 99 GTP, stock. Ordered the Dorman bar from Rock Auto on a Sunday, got it Wed. (Rock Auto rocks!) Jacked up the car, used jackstands under each side of the cradle. removed both tires, and started on removing the links. The pass side link was rusted pretty good, PB blaster and a few whacks with a hammer got it loose. Drivers side link dropped through by itself. The bushings took some time to get off, not much turning possible with a ratchet in the space they are in. Wrestling the bar out of the car was the real p.i.t.a. Took me a good 45 minutes of trying to wiggle it out before I gave up. Removed the outer tie rod on the drivers side, and relocated the jackstands to the floor jack points so I could lower the cradle a bit. Once I did that, I was able to finally wrestle it out. Putting the new one in was surprisingly easy. It took only a slight twist to get it in place. Once it was in place, putting in the new links and bushings in was pretty straightforward. Again, tightening the bolts on the bushings took awhile, as clearance is very strict. FYI the Dorman bar has a label so you don't install it upside down. Once it was in, I raised the cradle back up, reconnected the tie rod, put wheels back on, and all was good. Took a test ride, no more clicking! Thanks again to the forum for having all the info I needed to do this myself.

Did you grease the mount bushings and wrap them in teflon tape? There is a write up on here somewhere about doing that. It says it keeps the bushings from tearing, which from what I hear is a common problem with the ones that come with the doorman unit

I just found the thread you are referring to about the tape/grease. I did not do that. I did use dishwashing liquid to help slide the hold down over the bushing once it was in place. Do you think I should go back in and do the grease/teflon trick?

I wouldn't worry about it... Just wait til they rip and replace with poly. Doing all poly on the front really stiffens things up like Matt was saying.
