    Just before I go sourcing/buying, for a 2003 gtp:

    1. 04 GP calipers & brackets - from junkyard
    2. 04 GP pads - partsource

All should work, correct? Will Impala's use the exact same setup if I find those parts cheaper in junkyard?

Ummm...can't remember if they work or not.

I know the '04+ rotors are bigger.

I know you can use '06+ Imp. dual piston calipers/brackets/rotors tho for a pretty impressive upgrade for the price.

    OR.

Use factory '03 calipers and Regal/Imp/Intrigue/Monte caliper brackets and buy 12" brake rotors.

04+ brakes on a 97-03 are a bad idea period.

    Get 00-05 impala brakes.

Or better yet, 06+ impala brakes.

They're the same as F body in terms of braking force.

Perf pads will be similar price. (i actually found F body pads to be cheaper, but that can vary)

Won't require special bolts/spacer however they ARE heavier because they're cast iron vs aluminum of the F body calipers.

Why are the 12" from the 04+ GP bad? I thought the 00-05 Impala brakes were the same?

    04+ isn't 12" its 11.67 or there abouts. 00-05 impala is 11.92.

Also parts for the 00-05 imp are much easier to find in Ontario.

Ok, great info - so if I get 06+ Impala Rotors/Calipers/Brackets/Pads I should be good to go, bolt in just fine with all the stock GP parts on stock 16 wheels?

All the yards around my area don't want to sell just the caliper brackets, they want to sell the calipers with it.

Alternatively, if I go with the 00-05 Impala, I can get away with Rotors/Brackets/Pads?

    Yes.

Granted you don't have lattice wheels.

    Which yards?

Because there are few near the durham region that have U pull that you could get just the bracket from.

yeah don't have the lattice wheels, my area in KW & Cambridge. I also might have a line on LS1 brakes (2 piston calipers, pads & new rotors for like $200) - is that a deal I shouldn't pass up?

what kind of pads and rotors?

Pads make or break the deal. rotors aren't that much of a deal breaker.

Just called partsource, for new ceramic pads, premium rotors and calipers after tax:

    03 Impala $371
    06 Impala $371
    02 Camaro $438

Are the Camaro brakes made out of lighter material?

you can look for c5 vette calipers also, to use with the fbody caliper brackets. depending where you look you might find it cheap.

Seller doesn't know, he won't budget below $230 either - brand new I'd have to spend another $208 over for the same thing.

    Opinions?

    You should run performance pads.

Not what partsource has on the shelf.

Get Hawk streets or EBC reds.

They can order them in for you.

But so can any speed shop.

Most use keystone so they'll have very similar pricing.

Doing some more reading... one person complained that any brake upgrade on the GP's using a dual piston caliper has led to a spongey/poor pedal feel. Anyone experience this?

I got a buddy of mine to get me trade price, looks like $375 brand new gets me 98-02 Camaro premium rotors, performance ceramic pads & brand new calipers.

Does this end up being the most cost effective vs performance gains option?

C5 calipers offer a little less sponge at the cost of braking force.

    Or stainless hoses.

Just to make sure, what calipers do i need exactly that don't require the 12mm bolts? According to the zzp site, they provide a kit with calipers that use the stock 14mm? I would rather this be a straight bolt on if possible.

Thought I also read the 06+ impala calipers were not aluminum yet zzp says their calipers are aluminum. Unless that is outdated info?
