I replaced my brakes about 5 months ago.... pads and rotors. 3 weeks ago they started making the most god aweful screeching noise when i stepped on the brakes. I know for a fact its coming from the front, so i decided instead of sticking with ceramic pads i would go ahead and put regular semi-met brakes on..... that worked for about a week of no squeeling, but today the squeeling started to come back. Any ideas here guys?
my father keeps telling me its brake dust .... but it is so loud and happens about every 4th time i step on the brakes.

Did you grease the back of the pads where it contacts the piston?

How would that create a high pitched squeal that's constant while on the brakes? Not being a smartass I'm just confused ?

squealing is usually due to a vibration, so greasing the back of the pad, and the caliper slider bolts may help, also did you cut the rotors? that could help too.

I had that issue with my girlfriend's old car. The rotors just needed to be turned. You could hear it squealing half a mile away it seemed.

he means cut the rotors, turn them is the term used, as they go on a metal lathe, and get turned.

Taking them to a machine shop to have the surface turned meaning cut. It makes sure the braking surface is level and not warped.

I'd do that then. Make sure you break them in properly if you get pads at the same time. That might have been what cause the problem in the first place.

pep boys pro stop, middle of the road price brake parts have done well so far for me. got them on the regal now all 4 rotors and pads.

i used them in my truck and they out lasted every other brake pad by over a year. and i drove that truck 30,000 miles a year, so around 60,000 miles out of the pads, all 4 wheels, with over sized tires.

It wouldn't hurt to try. Although I doubt that would do the job.

Diagnosing brakes can be tough. However the basics are simple, by merely presenting a flat parallel disc surface to the brake pad will fix most noise problems. I don’t want to point fingers here, but some ppls opinions on grease the $hi# out of them NEVER addresses the root cause of squealing brakes. I will add the only exception to this, the locking bolt needs lube. For those who may be in disbelief, take a look at a new car and show me all the lube. Becuase you won't find any.

In reading your posts it sounds like you are losing / don’t have proper parallelism. You can “re-bed” pads and replace the rotors until the cows come home but the problem will still be there (unless it gets accidentally fix in the process). Here are some places to start.

Loose fitting brake pad in the caliper
Loose fitting or missing brake hardware (i.e. shims, anti-rattle clips)
Loose lug nuts or caliper hardware
Debris caught between the rotor and the surface of the brake pad
    Heat cracked rotor

Ten years of continuous driving excitement and counting!

I had this on my gtp. taking a hard left they would make noise. one of the metal squeeler's were bent where the pad slides in to the slots. Not the squeeler it selve but that little metal part would hit the rotor and make noise. Sorry I dont know what they call it.
