I've been thinking about taking a half coil out of my SSCs for a little more drop. Has anybody else chopped up w-body springs? If so how much did you cut and how was the ride?

It will ride like ass. I had a ring break off on one of my stock springs and the ride was terrible.

I've heard after half a coil the spring rate gets messed up, so hopefully somebody has a better experiance with a small cut.

Thats kind of my mentality, If I don't like the way the chopped SSCs ride, I'll pick up another set, or get something else.

I'm hoping that the SSC's are a little higher quality from the Manufacturer than the DNA's are, which could net a better result... In theory anyway...

your thinkin is backwards to me why cut better springs when you can get DNA's cheap and then sell the SSC's if you like the cut DNA's

Cut springs is for ricers, and even ricers don't recommend cutting springs.

You take any amount of coil out and you are changing the spring rate. You want low? Go coilover.

I'm not paying $1500 for a set of coil overs for a car that isn't done being built.

Cutting lowering springs is different from chopping stocks. The process used to cut also affects the ride. I can handle some bounce, I expect it to be a little more bouncy.

Not exactly... Cutting a spring with heat softens the spring.

Cutting a stock spring, is no different than cutting an aftermarket. It affects it the same. In fact, it affects a aftermarket even more becuase aftermarket springs have a higher spring rate from the get go.

    Cutting springs is hack work.

Good thing SSCs have the closest spring rate to stock. That'll give me a good starting point.

Chevy High Performance magazine did a write up on cutting springs Chevrolet Lowering - Chevy High Performance

    And gp-owners also has a write-up

You're looking for some kind of vindication to say its a good idea. Its not a good idea. Its the epitome of rice.

I mean, it makes the car less safe, makes the car ride like sh!t, but hey it looks cool right?
