Thread: loose ring on wheel bearing interior?

Hey guys,
Just got my car back from the shop for bearings and tie rods. I noticed a jingle whenever I went over bumps, and I found the source. There's a ring going around the axle right where it meets the bearing and hub assembly. Is it important? Is it okay if it's just loose and freely hanging? Can I remove it or tighten it down myself?
