why comg g springs and does the comp g have the fe4 suspension package because you cant look up comp g struts you look up fe1,2,3,4 suspension packages. i think the comp g has the fe3 sport suspension where as the ss models and gxp has the fe4 special handeling package
so are the bilsteins better then the gr-2's or excel-g's? also for what i have found for the fe4 replcement parts are all ac delco parts but specific to certain hendeling packages.
I know the bilsteins have a HUGE piston rod compared to a normal strut. Usually using bilsteins will raise your car about 3/4 of an inch or so. Sorry, I haven't checked the spid label on my compg. It's not my daily driver. I'll check tomorrow for you
dorman trailing arms, gmpp rear and dorman front. strut wise? if you wanna spend lotta dough, go with bilsteins. otherwise gr2's / excel g's, whichever u prefer is enough for a daily driver.
CompG's = Fe3 susp. GXP=Fe4. Comp G struts are designed to be sport meaning you will feel the road etc. Billsteins aka Fe4 designed to be more luxury. Billsteins are crazy expensive go with either Comp G's and do not go with Kyb unless they're the Agx adj struts. The Gr2 have a bad rep for riding worse then the comp g's and not lasting to long especially springs. Overall I love my comp G but time for new struts but i will be getting Kyb Agx instead.
AGX dont have a pristine reputation either. heard numerous times about them squeeking and failing prematurely. only reason i got them is because i got them for a good price.
Ill tell ya what comp G struts suck after 140k miles......![]()
Thanx redcompg you answered my question. So the gr-2s are more 'sport' then the fe3 struts, did I read that correctly? The reason why I was asking this is I was wondering if there are equal or better then suspension pieces that I can get for the same price as gr-2s, gmpp, dorman. But it appears not, though the monte ss with fe4 suspension has solid arms like the dormans but the price is rediculous compared to dormans.
As someone already stated go with the GMPP handling kit. The only thing you will not get with the GMPP handling kit is the trailing arms. They have been discontinued. UMI makes a set of trailing arms for the w-body that are tubular. Also, some have said that the GXP trailing arms are tubular and are the exact same part as the GMPP trailing arms.
As far as struts, you can use any strut that was offered on the 97-08 w-body. The spring is what will affect the ride height and not the strut. Your stock springs will work with all of these struts.
The GR2's are good for stock replacement springs. I would not recommend you use them for lowering springs. Mine were shot at just over 10K miles.
The AGX's are the next best adjustable strut to the discontinued GMPP koni's. Yes these will still eventually wear out but they can handle a lowering spring much better than the GR2's.
The bilsteins found on the GXP's are a very good strut. They will handle the a lowering spring just fine. These are what are referred to as the FE4 suspension.
The comp g springs have been said to be a little on the stiff side. I am not sure how well they handle a lowering spring. KYB also sells their version of the comp g's as the excel g. Here is the thread for the excel g's. These are referred to as the FE3 suspension.

I recommend you use ant-pogo washers with any of these if you decide to use a lowering spring.
I've been keeping an eye on that thread guz. I didn't know the excel g's are the replacements for the comp.g's. And like I said above, the only replacment parts that I have found for the gxp are ac delco. Also I was gunna use dna springs with the gr-2s with anti pogo washers and engine/ tranny spacers.
^ Personally I would go w/ comp g's and lowering springs several guys have the combo and love it.
That's what I'm looking for though, I didn't want a major drop where I could only fit a finger between the fender and the wheel. I wanted a slight drop where it is an improvement in handeling but not over done cux I wanted to retain DD status so I can drive my kid around without it jarring her too bad
