Thread: Brake Pad Bonding Process

I ran across this some time ago and its becoming more popular. Seems like a WAY better way to bond brake pads than the traditional adhesive.

Looks cool, and are on the Hawk pads I run now.

But even in the past, I have not had a problem with pads coming unbonded. Maybe on race applications. But even drag racing, the brakes typically don't get hot.

I agree, Ive never had a problem with brake pads delaminating or coming unglued. But I figure, if there is a better process, why not. I want to get new rotors and pads all the way around and have them cryo treated, so I might as well pony up and do it as best I can.

They don't list Centric Posi Quiets, and these are the quietest brakes I have ever owned. One of the biggest fouls that causes noise while braking is the caliper piston moving against the pad backing, causing the metal on metal squeal.

Centric's Posi Quiet brakes (along with other features) add a nylon/teflon shim that won't break down to the back of the pad. It's supposed to serve the same function as that "gel" stuff sold in auto parts stores, but does it much better. There is no longer metal on metal contact between the piston and pad backing, eliminating noise.

Since I installed them, I have not heard noise from my brakes once.

Cryo treatment is a computer controlled process of taking treated parts down to -300 degrees or more (-320 is about max). Its not a surface coating as with other process, rather the whole part, through and through, is treated and greatly reduces wear. You sacrifice nothing in braking ability but you severely reduce warpage and wear which gives your brake pads and rotors a much much longer life. It also aids in heat dissipation which would be a benefit for brakes as well.

I will back up my buddy Sabre here. I have a full set of Posi Quiet's myself and I could not be happier, and with the driving I do, a good mix of city and highway driving I have never heard one peep from them! And their bite is quite good and the dust is NOTHING

I've never seen them in a chain store before.

Brake Warehouse (website) carries them. So does R1Concepts. Probably a lot more, since they're made by Centric, but I don't know off hand.
