kyb gr2s ARE stock replacements. they are 10% stiffer, but thats it.
I put 4 GR-2s on a 05 GT this year with 70k miles and stock springs on it. The GR-2s took care of the float and bounce that was creeping in. So, yes they are a stock replacement, nothing more. KYB literature says they are 10% tighter than OEM but that's hard to believe. If true, then they should have come 20% tighter than OEM.
I really wanted the adjustable AGXs to tighten the suspension up but they are not available for the 05s and a couple other years. Since you have a 97 GTP I would go for the AGX.
I have 60k on a set I put on my 1998-GTP back in 2006 and have been very happy with them. Stock tires and springs. They are getting a little soft now, but what do you want after 60K. I have AGX's on my TA and I love them. If you like a stiff controlled ride spend the extra money for the AGX's. Also, I'd recommend doing all the strut bearings when you change the struts, it will save you having to do them down the rode (I'm assuming you have 60k plus on the current struts). Also a good time to check your ball joints, tie rod ends and the pancake bushings on the control arms, not a matter of if you change them, just when. My GTP has 150K+ and she has been in the stable since 0 miles, so I've been there done all that.
You can't just say you hate them and leave as all hanging.
You have to give us more to work with, "I hated them because....
- I hate silver struts.
- They are made in Japan and I only buy American made products that are produced in Japan.
- They were too harsh compared to my old worn out struts. The car used to ride like Cady but now it is uncomfortably under control.
- I got my hands dirty when I put them in.
- KYB sounds to close to another product that makes me feel uneasy.
- I prefer Monro SenoTrash Struts.
no experience on the GP, but we all run them on the mitsus and they work out great. i put a set of gr2 on the mirage and it was all it needed. I do have agxs on the vr4 though and there is a big difference, but if you a used to worn stock then new gr2s will feel great
