I'm trying to figure out what I need to check or replace on my 2002 grand prix 98000 miles...... Seems to be a vibration when hitting the brakes even slightly or mashing on them. I'm thinking rotors? or maybe just a simple balance?

sounds like warped rotors!!! If it was balance then it would probably shake while just driving!!!

could be the ball joints as well they are easy to check, or have checked. unless your brakes are old and u beat the daylights out of them, then i would think warped rotors.

I had vibration during braking after I replaced my sway bars, lateral arms, and trailing arms. Turns out I needed to tighten one of the rear trailing arm bolts at the front end.

I eventually gave up and got a photobucket.... makes it much easier now, despite never wanting to get one. Then you just link the pics over.

    re-bed your pads?

    warping rotors is ACTUALLY difficult.

having the adhesive layer the pad lays down on the rotor come off is easy if you bought cheap pads

vibration on the steering wheel while braking almost always front rotors, vibration on the pedals while braking almost always rear rotors!
