Fair enough.
It's a beautiful 65* in Denver today, so I broke out the dirty grand prix and ran some errands. It didn't vibrate despite hitting triple digits
Perhaps the shocks are just wearing out and they couldn't handle the crappy Lower Alabama roads.... *shrug* I don't know, but I'm really excited to find out that I don't need to rebuild my transmission or keep replacing parts under warranty.
Colorado... Hook a brotha up J, I'll drop by and visit. Just remember, I ski like Sonny Bono. Glad to hear the car is behaving- The question is, are YOU?
Well, I have a guest room, but I'm not really near any slopes.... well, I guess I am compared to PCB. I'm about 2 hours from the nearest ski area. There's not a lot of snow right now. It's been t-shirt weather (50-70*) the last couple weeks. I put christmas lights up last year while it was snowing. So far, there hasn't been any snow since I put up my lights
...and, my house will be in Colorado, but I won't...... Whenever I get back, I'll get the grill started
Hahaha, I'll take that raincheck. Just remind Captain Morgan to roll the grill away from the vinyl siding.
it's on a rock island away from all meltables Did you ever get the siding replaced with rocks?
Hahaah, yeah, I have since moved the grill. Have not made a decision as to the future of the back yard, have some plans on Hot tub placement and whatnot. It's been in the 20's here, and I really haven't given a shat. LOL
OK, so here's an update.
I deployed to Iraq for the last year. As soon as I got back I got started replacing a bunch of parts and took a nice road trip (4500 miles). I replaced the shocks (Autozone specials), and put on cross-drilled/slotted/zinc rotors with pads on all 4 corners. Firestone also swapped out my old Grid's for Bridgestone Turanza Serenitys. They are really nice tires as well.
Today, I was able to swap out the CV axle on the passenger's side. This seemed to make a significant difference in the vibration issue that I was having. I have to drive on the interstate to get home from work now, so I stretched it's legs and it was smooth acceleration the entire time. There was only a very very slight vibration that was noticeable, but nothing compared to how it was before the axle swap. I'm going to assume that the old axle with 103,000 miles was going bad or already bad. Hopefully this takes care of the vibration! So far, it's looking good.

..yes, I'm in Tennessee right now... and I'm moving to an unknown location this summer (here we go again... I'm hoping to know where I'm moving by spring break...)
Hey guys I hope someone is still checking this thread, i've been looking at it for a while now, experiencing a similar issue. I have my car jacked up right now and am looking at the passengers side with the wheel off, and the shaft coming out of the differental ( coming out from the center of #6 in the diagram) has like an 8th inch of play in all directions, is this normal?
Shoot bill boost a private message. He'll know about the play you're asking about
I have a very similar issue--really bad vibration. Varies, but typically from about 40-60 maybe 70 mph. It is not in the steering wheel, it is more like the whole car is shaking. I have been suspecting the axles, but how do I tell which one and/or test them? I am thinking it feels more like the passenger side, but from the sound of this thread the driver side is more often the problem. Any ideas how to check them? It seems to be getting worse, to the point it is annoying to drive it. Need to get er dun soon. BTW, both front wheel bearings are new timkens, followed by an alignment, then I had the snow tires put back on following a balance, so although it is possible I don't think it would be any of those. Thoughts?
not besides that i feel your pain, talking to bill i'm ruling out what i was referring to as the "output shaft" (really part of the axle). checked out the front end pretty thoroughly. haven't gotten to take a real good look at the rear yet i've heard some talk that trailing arms could cause something like this
I forgot to mention that it ONLY vibrates while cruising. If I let off the gas it completely goes away. If I get on the gas hard it mostly goes away, but if I am just steady on the gas at cruising speed, then I get the big vibration.
Any other thoughts? I am still leaning toward axles from what I have read so far, but how do I tell which one?
So I got down there and the RF inner had a little play in it, so I changed that axle. The vibration is better, but not gone. I did notice fluid leaking from the mounts, so I suppose those are next...
I missed your posts.. May as well do both axles since you already did one side and it helped.
