what do you want to know? how low do you want to go? can you handle a rough ride?
these cars dont take really well to being lowered that much. the axle geometry is thrown off and you get vibration on acceleration in the 20-50 mph area. also, the struts sold for our cars just dont like being lowered at all so youll have to upgrade to KYB AGX unless you only get vogtland springs (which are the same springs that come with the GMPP setup on GTXs).
nevermind lol, my car already rides like crap and it drives me crazy!
but thanks anyways.
i still wana lower mine...i hate the wheel well gap...after hittin a tree head on at 80 n being in icu forever i dont have that need for speed any longer...so im about the looks now...is it really that bad though? ive had lowered cars but is a gp worse? even if you do it the rite way?
Damn sorry about the accident but ya know if u really dont like the wheel well gap u can always go with a bigger set of wheels to help fill in the gap a lil better.
dumbest thing ive ever heard. big wheels dont fill the wheel gap.
the car doesnt really ride that bad. it will never ride as bad as a lowered civic, but its no longer a stock-esque ride. for the handling and looks upgrade i think its totally worth it. if you want your car to ride like a cadillac then lowering it isnt for you. if you can take a little bumpy ride here and there then go for it.
i want to lower my car too adventually and it rides rough right now anyway. i mean 160000 miles on original struts, i'm hoping lowering it will be about the same ride quality if not better
Ok, i think i've read enough now to say Fuc* the lowering idea, i want a cadilac like ride. Wut kinda struts should i get? Should i replace to springs too?
I have to disagree with a lot of the information given in this post.
1. If you lower a W-body CORRECTLY, you will NOT have vibration issues. Many people know that when you lower your car the axle geometry gets screwed up, but no one corrects it. There's a cat named "Vinnie" who makes "Vinnie Spacers". They go under and over your engine mounts to correct the geometry.
2. People think they can go out and buy cheap ass KYB GR-2 struts and some Intrax springs, slap them on some old strut mounts and think the ride is going to be great. WRONG!! When it comes to struts / springs, you get what you pay for. KYB AGX is the best choice out there right now. Pricey, yes, but it will give you that stiff handling and smooth ride you are looking for, in an adjustable strut.
3. It is extremely important to make sure you don't neglect the hardware! Four new strut mounts are definitely in order when you do the install, bottom line.
Here's my car, lowered on KYB AGX adjustables and SSC springs. My ride can be harsh and tight if i want it, or it will ride like a caddy if I turn the struts down.
your car is freakin sexy copgtp! What kinda wheels are those
if i don't want to lower my car, should i replace the springs with the struts? if so wut brand/kind do you guys recomend?
Perfectly said. I have to agree with the information you provided. If done right these cars are fine lowered. I'm on the GMPP lowering set up and my ride is fine. I have no complaints. AGX's can be found at a decent price on performance peddler with the club gp discount code.
Talk to Vinnie about the spacers. That will take care of the vibration.

If you do not want to lower the car then get new strut mounts and new struts. KYB GR2's are a common strut for a stock replacement. They are a little stiffer than the stockers. Your springs shold be fine unless you are getting the common ass sag syndrome that plagues these cars. If that's the case then look into a set of rear springs from an intrigue. They raise the rear.if i don't want to lower my car, should i replace the springs with the struts? if so wut brand/kind do you guys recomend?
shorter dogbones or motor mount spacers. vinnie sells the right thickness spacers that are cut to size. unless youre an idiot you too can make these plates. not sure of the exact thickness he uses, but i'd use around 5/8".
lowering the car is great, but it will never ride like stock. even with the nice struts and all new mounts and everything. the lower you go the rougher it rides. cop, you are riding on vogtlands, the least drop of all the springs and you cant really tell what a rough ride or know what acceleration vibration really feels like. try some eibachs or intrax and tell us how you feel about lowering. but holy crap, it looks sexy.
