What causes this??? Anyone know? Car drives perfect a week before (almost 300k I might add) I changed the CV, verified by a semi quick 125mph test. Now the back tire rubs from 55 to 75. After 75, smooth. I didnt know the tire was rubbing, I was banking on a suspension piece. Hence the reason why I even drove it. Same weight, same gas. The fix? New struts, bend old one. Ideas?? By the way, I like fixing stuff right, but at 300K, I wonder how much longer she'll last.

How old are the shocks and springs? Where is the tire rubbing? Is it rubbing on the inside or the top? My 06 has 248K miles. I had the shocks, struts and spring last year. It rides well but now she needs tires and possibly a couple of tie rod ends.

Well, since you know the tire is somehow rubbing, tell us where.

Far as I know something would have to be bent in order to get a rear tire to rub.

My only other thought is that you have a hub going bad. With it making sound from 55-75 and then smoothing out it could be this.

Rubbing occured at the very inside of the tire, or towards the bottom outside of the spring perch. I say occured because I rotated the tires and it quit. And the suspension is all stock at almost 300K. Thanks

Ok, it seems to be rubbing at the top most inside of the tire(close to the strut) or the bottom outside part of the spring perch. The suspension has nearly 300K all stock(Its a 2006 GT with factory 17s). Im thinking I had a bad tire. The car had the vibration at full kill, and I started thinking it felt like a bad tire. Pulled over, threw spare on Pass rear. Whola. Crazy smooth up to 95mph. I already had another brand new tire, put it on. Just getting ideas before I try driving it. Thanks

Tire rubs at the spot where the tread ends. Almost where the sidewall begins. Well it was, but now stopped?

Do you have pictures? Jacked the back up and checked for play in rear suspension components/hubs?

Well everything is stock suspension wise at almost 300K. Tire rubs lower spring perch towards outside and outside of tread, almost sidewall, but tread. Im thinking it was a bad tire. Installed exact same kind Pirelli P4 225/55-17 and now it doesnt rub.
