hey guys just a couple days ago i was driving and had to get hard on the brakes and when i did my pedal went to the floor, upon takin it home and inspecting it i found that it blew near the proportioning valve on the passenger rear across the frame and i plan on piecing it in on the other side in the wheel well across the frame but i was wondering what fitting goes into the proportioning valve and what other fittings would be needed to do a piece in job and also do all the fittings have to be a bubble flare fitting or can i just use a double flare fittings for the piece in? thanks!

I don't know the exact fitting piece for size anyway but I know it's not an odd ball part to find.

I prefer a simple double flare for brake jobs, nothing speical and will hold forever and not leak.

there is not valve back there. take the driver side, well both back wheels off, driver side you'll see two lines one to that wheel, the other to the pass side.

i cut the line in a open area, then cut the line on the other side 4 to 5 inches from the block to the rear line, then i bought nicop line (very soft, bends like butter) and ran it around the back of the gas tank and to the cut lines.

i used compression fittings, you can go double flair and unions if you have all that.

driver side, two lines. ones patched in clearly

pass side at the block to the caliper line

bent around the back of the tank. cause getting it in to the frame aint gonna happen in this life time.

im pretty sure its 5/16 th i got a 5 foot line and cut the flairs off and the line nuts and loaded it in place.

if you go compression fittings, sand the tube clean first, then cut it. this way all the parts slide on nice and easy.

I would definitely go with flaring also put a little bit of pipe dope on your threads. Good luck.

well i finally got it done after standing in line at autozone and them telling me they dont have it smh i just reused the m12x1.0 fitting that went into the proportioning valve and bought 5ft of line with bubble flares and cut one end off, reused the fitting with the bubble flare end and used a union and 2 connectors. it looks exactly like scottydogs did his. i couldnt get it back where it was over the rear frame so i went around the gas tank as suggested but im curious now since i replaces a line do i have to bleed the brakes to get air out or id it fine and if so which calipers do i use? thanks for the help guys!

if the master cylinder went dry at any time. fill it, bleed the master, then bleed all 4 brakes. good time to flush the brakes too if you never did before. you need two people to bleed the master. one to pump and hold and push the pedal, one to crack the lines off the master letting the air out the line nuts. i like to lay some rags under the lines, then put a wrench on the nut and crack it free, then wrap the nut and wrench with another rag. keeps the mess to a min. snug the line nut, pump the brakes and hold them, then crack the line nut. you'll hear the air spitting out, repeat till no more air comes out.

if working solo. search you tube for a one man brake bleeder. cheap simple and easy to use. when the bottle is full, you get another one and cap off the full one and keep on working.

no the master cylinder is just on the minumum line fluid stayed in the master cylinder so does that mean i just have to bleed from the calipers and if so is their a specific sequence for these vehicles! thanks man i appreciate the help its my first time doing something like this

in reality, todays cars probably dont matter being you have a line to each wheel.

normally you do the rr, then lr, then rf then Lf.

keep the master full while you bleed it, if it goes dry your bleeding the master.

yeah man i did exactly what you said to a T, the fluid was black as oil and it took a while but finally got to the cleaner color of fluid. brakes are the same as they were before all this happened so im sure calipers being replaced would help in the future right? thanks for the help man!

no need for that. thats just 15 year old used up baked brake fluid. it should be flushed every few years, most over look it.

its the heat from the brakes that beats up the fluid.
