I have a 300w amp, subwoofer and an aftermarket stereo i am looking to install. I need to buy a wiring kit but I am not sure what gauge I need. When it comes to audio stuff I am not the smartest. Please help.

8 gauge power and ground is fine for 300w.

KnuKonceptz make very good amp install kits I would recommend them all day long because they give you the true wire size. Comes with RCAs, like 18ft of power and 3ft of ground, wire loom, all the terminals you need, zip ties (I think), fuse with a holder, speaker wire and maybe other things. I'm running 4ga alum clad from KnuKonceptz, its very thick and overkill for my 500w but it leaves room for if you want to go bigger. Look it up, 4ga kit costs maybe like 30-40 bucks or less, I can't remember tho.

    +1 for KnuKonceptz superb stuff.

8gauge will be fine and is easier to work with (hide, poke through holes, etc)

I'd just run 4gauge and call it a day, that way if you ever upgrade, or want to run a 2nd amp, you can.

Get some welding wire (OFC) 4ga or 2ga... Cheaper and if you decide to go bigger with your stereo you already have decent size wire ran!!
