I forgot to mention the steering wheel controls don't light up or work on my car. (replaced the fuse and still nothing) But i already have an aftermarket stereo so it could be that it's not hooked up right. But i am replacing it because the CD player doesn't work

Likely your steering wheel controls were disabled by someone not connecting them with something like a Metra Axxess
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Any recommendations on stereos? I want it to light up right and have front aux input, and have a steering wheel control hook up so i can figure that out.

Use Crutchfield or Sonicelectroics to narrow to the radio you want and features then go on amazon or fleabay to find it cheaper

I have a kenwood unit, doesn't have steering wheel controls but I haven't missed them.

+1 on the kenwood. They work nice and are way easier to use than the cheaper headunits. I got mine for like $125 but it has usb and Aux which are definitely worth it. My only regret is that I don't have bluetooth.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't expect to pay anything less than $200 for a good headunit.

I've literally owned 3 headunits in the last 14 years. The first one I paid $50 for. It was a few months used, but was only a $75 or $100 headunit at the time. It literally lasted 6 months. After that I bought a $200 Sony Xplode. I had that for 8 years and it was in several cars until it finally died. I replaced it with a $250 Alpine. Love that unit, but it sits unused right now. I pulled it out of my Stealth when I parked it. I'd put it in the GP if GM weren't such morons.

You get what you pay for, especially when it comes to headunits. You won't be saving any money if you have to buy another one in a year.

What would you recommend then? I don't mind paying a bit extra for a quality unit but i definitely want to keep it under 200.

If upgrading your audio unit isn't a priority right now, why not wait until it rises higher on the list? I think you'd be happier with your purchase if you waited to get something that will serve all of your wants and needs.

    Thinking about these two

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158N500...X-N5000BT.html

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDAH...-KD-AHD57.html

Both are steering wheel control compatible. Any opinions on which one? Also when i go to buy it, it says i have to pick between 4 or 8 speakers with or without Onstar. I have a 97 coupe but im not sure if i have 4 or 8 speakers.. Im guessing 4?
