Does anyone know if it is possible to fit 8" Component Woofers in the door. Mounting Depth is 3.39"s I would obviously need a custom mounting baffle. Anyone? If you have pictures please share.

Did you use the stock modified mounting system? Or a slice of MDF?

I started with modified stock, but had to go to mdf with the audax speakers I had (they are big and cast)

I am going to try to fit them in my doors. They should fit but it will be close... If they don't fit in the doors I can put some 6.5's in there and throw the 8s in the rear deck I suppose. Btw these are what I was planning: JL Audio

Those would sound sick in the rear deck though, they are designed for ifinite baffle. Just put a badazz set of 6.5" comps in the front and run them off a nice 4 channel. I did this kind of setup in a gto and it was awesome. Although if you listen to songs w/ really tight bass the i-baffle setup is not ideal, it doesn't sound bad but it aint great either.

What I am thinking is if they cannot fit in the doors for whatever reason I will throw them in the rear deck all though I really don't want too. Then put some Comp's in the stock locations in addition to the comps in the kick panels.

as long as you have a filler up front and not just those 8's you will be fine for sound. You could also do some 8" memphis m-sync components, they are a lil bit shallower than the z-series, but still great quality. Plus they are not just midbass drivers, they are full blown components. I had those in my silverado plus a set of 6.5" in the kicks and it sounded great (along with other stuff of course, haha).

Have you got anything in the car now, audio wise?

I was planning on going with some JL Audio C5-650's for the kicks. I am JL bias person idk why have always loved them.

Right now I have JL Audio 5.25s TRs they are coaxils pretty good but i'm looking to go higher. To power them I have a Alpine 4x70w V-Power Amp for the rears I have JL VR690s coaxil. JL Audio wiring and an Alpine CDA-9855 4v preouts. I HAD a JL audio 12W7 with 500/1 was too much for me. I am looking more for autophile SQ w/o the heavy bass. How much do the Memphis run?

JL is defenitely a good brand, no scratch that, great brand. So you have a very good reason to have a bias towards them. The 8" m-syncs retail for around 250 or so.

Hmm Ill look into those. I really don' know how much these ZR800 are going to cost they just had them at CES. So pricing should be coming soon. But if they are anything close to the cost of a pair of normal ZR speakers they aren't going to be cheap and that's for sure. Thank God for Ebay. lol

Thus why I am going with the C5-650's they share most of the same build components as the ZR series and half the retail price. You can pickup a pair on crutchfield with warranty for $450..Ebay even cheaper. Having the 8s in the doors will be nice running everything off of the 450/4v2 and being able to control the bass off of the sub level on the head unit I am really looking forward to.

Just for my own morbid curiosity, how are you going to get those to stage center for SQ? I've considered going larger myself, but you know, I just don't think I would be able to keep the staging right.

I could list my mods, but Sideways has an ungodly list. I dare not try to compete.

8's won't be as directional as a smaller speaker, so the tweets will move it up some. I know mine moved up a bit when I went from the 5.25s to the 6.5s (now about the steering wheel height instead of sounding like the pedals are singing)

If you are worried about moving staging up more, just put the tweets below the midrange and kick them out at an angle a lil bit. Or just wire a center channel on the dash in parrallel with the front components. That would bring staging up quite a bit.

I might also add another tweeter to the one in the kick. Either in the stock location or maybe where this guy mounted it. (Compliments of JL's site)
