So I want to install two 12" subwoofers in my 2004 GP, but im completely confused about the whole matching amps and subs up with eachother thing. My last GP came with a BOSS AR1500M Amplifier. (I will attach specs below) I was wondering if i could hook this amp up to 2 subwoofers? if so, what type of subwoofers should I be looking into?

    Thanks for the help,

I am confused about whether it not this amp will even power 2 subwoofers, and if it will I'm confused about whether or not there are any special subwoofers I should buy!?

it only has one output channel so it will power one subwoofer.
    • RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 700 Watts x 1 this is the power that the amp will put out continuously. I wouldn't worry too much about the peak power. The other thing to look at is the minimum speaker impedance which is 2 ohms, so make sure your sub does 2 ohms

If you get 12s decent ones can handle 500 a piece easy boss over rates their stuff so at two ohms yor probably looking at 1000 watts if your lucky. Just wire the two subs in parallel and you'll be fine. I had two jls kicking at 1000 watts rms for sure because I has an infinity amp and that **** moved your stomach up and down after you would eat. I know a decent amount about car audio used to be all I was into lemme know if you have any other questions about anything or products

Peak power meens nothing. Rms is what you look at. What kind of music do you listen to? I like 10s they hit faster and let off more of a punch. Also make sure the subs have dual voice coils. Also boss is garbage i wouldnt trust that rms rating.

2 things one Get Rid off boss and last thing if your trying to power up subs you should never use a class A/b or mosfet amp i would always go with a Class D amp for subs break down from my years of car audio
I always run class a/b amp for high and mid speakers(Component sets or interior speakers) and a Class D for the Subs
reason being I feel i get a deep sounding bass with class d and I have tried to run all class on subsand when it comes to tuning i like the class d amp better other class amps seems to distort easy its just my advice and experience Good luck

You gave no info. on the subs... Single or dual? Ohms? You can wire two subs on a single channel amp, just depends on the subs. More info needed.

Sounds like you first need to know what ohms your subs are... Dual voice coil or single voice coil???

That is why he is asking for help, He wants to know what kind of sub to purchase to hook up to his amp.

Well truthfully something that can handle like 700 rms would be good. I've owned both. I like the dual better even tho both sound the same when perfectly powered. Find out the real rms of your amp because boss over rates everything.

if you want 2 12's go with anything that handles 4ohm 350RMS each wire them in parallel, class A's are better for pushing subs but not always necessary, nor cleanest sounding. if you don't want to run a crossover then get a Class-D. I know I realized that I'm just re-iterating what ONEO said. I was running 2 12" MTX Jackhammers on a sony 1250watt amp with ran about 400rms true rated in a West-Coast/Orion ban-pass box and that **** hounded. The best sound I could ever get.

IMO you should get the subs you like then get an amp that runs them well. Don't get something to fit that amp use that on to power upgraded door and deck speakers and run a class d on the subs bridged and parallel depending on the box you use ban-pass parallel and bridged, sealed with individual chambers go bridged only, ported go with parallel - too much power with no compression = blown speakers

sell your Boss amp and look for a mono-block class D that is CEA-2006 compliant. then you know you're getting your actual RMS from the amp. i don't support Boss because of their products screwing up in the past for my friends. if you wanna pay some money, go get some Alpine Type R's. I'm running two 10's with a Alpine MRX-M240 tuned properly . These subs can handle anywhere from 300-1000watts RMS each. so if you are keeping your amp, try these subs. they're awesome.
