Well upon looking back at the old setup, it *appears* that the tweeters were just spliced off of the stock speaker's terminal into a mini harness that connected both...

With an aftermarket 1" Tweeter, do I really need to worry about a crossover, blowing it up, etc? Or should I just get it over with and wire it to the 6.5"?

I myself would make a crossover for it so that Bass and min-range dont overheat the poor thing

The tweeter wire actually has a Capacitor inline with the wire. Its wrapped up in that foam

Most coaxial speakers have some sort of capacitor in line to prevent blowing the tweeter out, an external crossover is usually just designed to filter out the high's from the woofer.

Make sure you cut out the low frequencies from the woofer in some way. I laugh my ass off whenever I hear someone blasting their system, and the vocals are all screwy because they're throwing notes meant for subs at little midrange woofers.
