I have in my 01GTP the Bose premium sound. Ive had my 12in 800watt pioneer sub and amp hooked up to it since I got the car, it sounded perfectly fine. One day the head unit started shutting the display off but still played music. around this same time the bass became almost non existent. I swapped in a different head unit, same thing minus the display shutting off- nearly no bass. upon inspecting wires i noticed if i moved the RCA cable it would cut in and out, so I decided to replace it, but while I was in there I replaced the ground and power wire from 8ga to 6ga. Its has a tiny bit more bass than before, but not what it used to be. The amp is turning on, the sub is getting power, just not getting the thump like before. Im thinking either the sub or the amp or maybe both are getting tired and on the way out, although I bought the sub a year and a half ago brand new. Any thoughts? Eventually Ill be going to 2 10inch subs in a better box but wasnt planning on doing that this year. If I can find it and didnt give it away, Im going to hook up my old Rockford Fosgate 400watt amp and see if anything changes(has 2 channel and 4 channel mode but doesnt work in 4 channel mode and never did since I got it). Im just a little baffled as to why all of a sudden its painful to listen to music in the car haha.

I have to ask lol....If you got a new headunit did you readjust the EQ settings for the new one? The bass could be turned all the way down

Check your current settings on the new head unit. I doubt it's your sub if it's that new. My sub is like 10 years old and it hits fine. Could be the amp though. Any info on the amp?

i have messed with the settings on 2 different head units, theres no change. the current head unit doesnt have as many settings as the other one but it has the basics, the other one has the same but also HPF and LPF settings. the sub is a pioneer 12inch 800watt and the amp is a pioneer 800watt. originally that amp powered a 12inch alpine type r but apparently those are made like crap (or i abused it) because i melted the wires coming off the voice coil. i replaced it with the pioneer sub a year and a half ago. fuses are good. 6ga fused power is good and also brand new, 6ga ground is good and brand new, brand new RCAs too. RCA is ran down the passenger side, power and turn on wire on drivers side. the only thing i havent checked are the two fuses plugged into the amp (30 each) because i assumed if those went bad it wouldnt work at all.

single or dual voice coil sub? DVC could have lost one of the coils.. Def suggest trying the other amp.. that would tell you pretty quick if the amp is the issue. Could have some bad capacitors in the amp or something. After that, check to make sure you didnt melt the same little wires in this sub down.. maybe just barely attached etc. and ensure both speaker wires are attached correctly. Those are my first thoughts. HTH

well, i cant find the rockford amp i had, cant remember if i gave it to a friend or not. oh well. i did check this sub and the wires for the voice coils are much better made than the previous one, they seem to be okay. for shiggles i plugged the other head unit in(sony) that somehow mad more bass than the other(jvc), and magically its back to slammin tech n9ne and flux pavilion. i think the rcas were deff an issue, and the other head unit (jvc) was just old and nearly dead, so back to the sony i suppose. now i just have to add the extra piece in the dash install kit cuz the sony faceplate flips down to change cds and right now it doesnt flip down enough.

I've went through 3 or 4 JVC single din head units within 5 years. Personally they aren't built good. If this Sony craps out go with kenwood, clarion or alpine(Alpine is also going downhill, slowly).

Would much rather have a Kenwood. Further down the line when I upgrade Im getting a double din to fit and two 10's, plus id like to custom make the box(es) for them so maybe they fill in the area on the left and right side of the trunk, kinda where the OnStar crap is.

Yeah, I've got a Kenwood DNX6990HD. Went with the smaller screen cause of the volume knob rather than the button for the 7". It's an okay HU but slow for the touch screen response. Might be because the GPS is always telling me where I am rather than some HU's where you need to click the GPS to turn it on. Kenwood makes a good product.
