I just picked up the access ASWC-1 steering wheel control and I am having trouble getting it to program. It is recognizing the head unit but not the car. Has anybody else had this problem?

I think that's the same one I used. Do the directions say something like press and hold a volume button for a long time to program it? If so.. I do remember holding that button, way longer than I thought I should have.
Yeah you hold the volume up button until it starts going through a series if flashes. I have followed the instructions to a T and still can't get it. Maybe I am holding the button too long.
I think you hold it for like 10 seconds until it flashes 3 times or something weird. It's been a while since I hooked mine up! I'd look for directions online.
Yeah I looked it up online and also called tech support. Still can't get it to program. The guy I talked to said its not recognizing the vehicle. I might just take it to a stereo shop and see if they can get it.
I had so much trouble with mine. It says to hook up to the blue wire or something like that? According to my directions there wasn't any need to hold the volume. To this day it still doesn't work and it is sitting in a box somewhere. Had it for 2 years. Im pretty disappointed about it.
Ok I figured it out. They tell you in the instructions to cut 3 wires and I cut the wrong one. Lol the wire looked orange with a green stripe but was really yellow with a green stripe.
If at all possible post some pics because I am so completely lost. lol.
2000 and as far as the wire harness I cant recall off the top of my head. Its the one that came free from crutchfield with the purchase.
I would just take it into the shop, I work at a car audio store, so I deal with these problems everyday. Self installs, you have to make sure you wire it up 100% correctly or you can ruin it. Don't take it to a bestbuy though, they would do worse damage then you could. But half the time it's because the wire don't have a secure enough connection, or or wrong wires are connected.
Installed one of these yesterday in my son's 2000 firebird. Had the same yellow/green orange/green striped wire issue. Did email Metra and got a response within a few hours. Took a couple of tries to get it programmed, but once it was done properly, works great! Instructions are not real clear, but keep trying, once it works, you'll be really glad you have it set up!
I went to do this a couple weeks ago and I couldn't even find the Axxess I think I packed it away and just gave up after the last time. I gotta find it and attempt one last time!
So a little update for you all. Not sure where exactly I went wrong before but this time I was able to connect the green/ orange wire to the blue one of my cars harness and I got it to work after manually programming the buttons a few times cause I kept forgetting to skip certain buttons. But at last (2years and 2months later) I finally can use my steering wheel controls.
I got a harness for my car with the head unit I bought for free. Not sure that the chimes go through the head unit though. Seems like on our generation of GP they dont. Could be wrong though. Hopefully someone else chimes in (pardon the pun).
