Took my old radio from 2005 GP (base, no monsoon) and either I'd do a $5 replacement bulb work or just replace it with something different. MP3 player with USB or SD card to load mp3 files would be good. Doesn't need to be top of the line, I am hard of hearing and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference of sound quality between a cheap unit from a top of the line model.

Ability to play local radio is optional.

Pioneer 50W x 4 MOSFET Apple iPodReady InDash CD Deck DEH-4400HD - Best Buy
I have one like this or at least similar. Love it. Great quality. Although, considering you have the ability to do a double din you should definitely do that. Like Red said, Pioneer is awesome.

I have had several different brands and they all worked fairly well; Alpine, Sony, JVC, Pioneer, etc. The one area which many fall short are the usability features. I suggest you play with a few in the local Best Buy or Walmart and try out the usability features. For example, the Alpine has 6 preset buttons on the front and 3 bands, so 18 total channels. The JVC has only the up and down buttons for presets and 18 channels. One would think the Alpine is better, but the JVC can easily scroll through all 18 channels one after another. On the Alpine you have to find the tiny button, hit some other buttons to change bands, etc, etc. It's much easier on the JVC. Even if you don't use the radio, the bluetooth connectivity on my alpine is unreliable. If I get out for gas and turn the car off, and then get back in and restart the car, I need to manually connect to the radio again. It's a real pain. Play with a few in the store to see what is easy to operate, and then check online reviews on Amazon, for pros and cons
