Hey guys, I am planning on buying a new Kenwood BT852HD for the 2002 black GTP with the Bose system. I plan on just using the Bose amp that is in the trunk and don't care about the door chimes or the On Star because it doesn't work anyways. I am not in to blowing my ear drums out so it doesn't have to be real loud. Do I need anything special besides the install kit or the steering wheel control adaptor? Also another note, when playing the stereo that is in it now, I am noticing a whining noise coming over the speakers, is there a fix for that or is that normal for the Bose system?

Everything is original in the car, has the standard Delco stereo in it with the Bose speakers and Bose amp in the back. I remember a long time ago when I installed a new stereo in a car with amp and it had that noise and what I did was install a capacitor in the wiring but I cannot remember how to do that.

Noise canceler's are not necessary if the head unit is grounded properly. Noise/Alt. Whine/Ground noise is usually cross talk between the DIFFERENCE OF TWO GROUNDS. Two ground sources CAN interact. However, the usual cause is insufficient surface area or mass with the original ground. i.e. grounding to a thin piece of sheet metal, using a bolt w/o a washer, not scraping paint to allow metal on metal contact, lead crimp on wire isn't tight enough, etc. etc...poor contact is the issue.

If that's not the issue perhaps you're pulling more current and the grounding wire isn't sufficient? Can you describe how you connected the power and ground? I suspect a bad connection.

If you have the option of turning off the internal amplifier on the new HU try that and see if you still have the noise in the speakers. You have to identify the source of the grounding issue before you point fingers.

My GMOS 100 wire harness was the culprit in my first install.

EDIT: Just remembered something else...double check the voltage turn on for the Bose Amp. I think it's only 5V. Make certain you have a resistor or circuit in the wire harness that changes your amp turn on voltage down from 12V

I have not even touched the stereo yet. I am buying a new head unit soon but have noticed the whining noise in the speakers for sometime with the Bose system that is installed now which is original. I do not listen to the music loud either and have noticed the noise even with the volume down all the way. Could it possibly be the Bose Amp causing that which is in the trunk? Since I will be replacing the HU, is there anything special I should know about hooking it to the Bose?

Hrmmm. If you could unplug the source(HU) and keep power to the amp then you'd know if it was the amplifier making the noise.

Maybe I will just to have to wait till I get the new HU installed, I will know for sure then. Replacing the amp if needed won't be a problem or I may just bypass it and just use the amp in the stereo only

Possibly is the problem, Doesn't the Delco stereo come with a amp built in to it? If so, that definitely could be the issue. I don't know but I remember the stereos back in the late 80's and 90's and they were notorious for that. People had to put capacitors on the ground wire to stop the whining. Looking forward to replacing the stereo, The system is nice but I like the idea of having Bluetooth calling and streaming music. One thing to keep in mind, if you ever buy a new HU, make sure you get one with an external microphone. The ones with built in mic pick up to much road noise

Easy way to isolate the deck is to use a 3.5mm to RCA. Play your ipod or something similar into your amps. That will isolate the radio. If you still hear it then it's in your amplifiers.

Ok, getting around to buying the Kenwood system for the car and Crutchfield says I need a PAC SOEM-4 which is a Universal 4-channel line output converter and from seeing the reviews on Crutchfield about the product is that it is a waist of money and I do not need. Anyone have any idea if I need this or can I wire up the Bose amp directly?

You installed a double din in your Pontiac Grand Prix? Seen some photos before but you have any with your double din installed?

My 2000 came with the factory Bose. I now have a Sony double din with navi and the Bose system with no problems.

Do you have any photos? Was it a pain getting it installed? I have been thinking double din but not sure how it would look
